About Us

New College of Florida's Financial Wellness Initiative seeks to enhance student financial competence by providing coaching, programming, and resources to help them navigate the financial decisions that come with young adulthood and increased financial independence. Recognizing that the cost of college attendance is a significant challenge for young people, we believe that by building the ability of our students to make informed financial decisions, we will reduce student stress and enhance retention, while imparting life skills that will continue to benefit our students long after graduation.

The Office of Outreach and Inclusive Excellence, which sponsors and coordinates Financial Wellness for the college, sees financial literacy and wellness as an initiative that aligns well with New College’s overarching educational mission to “prepare intellectually curious students for lives of great achievement.”

Research shows there is a direct correlation between student financial knowledge and academic success (Trellis, 2019). Those who drop out of school are more likely to do so due to financial challenges. Our purpose is to reduce financial strain that would impede academic success, increase college retention and graduate financially savvy students.
