Get to know NCAS, our science, services, facilities and measurements. A series of talks followed by an opportunity to talk to the panel.
NCAS has a wide range of Scientific Services and Facilities that may help you in your current and future careers. This talk will introduce you to them, their key contacts and how you get involved not just as a user but also get involved in how they develop the service capability
NCAS offers a broad range of scientific training, using the expertise of our staff to upskill the atmospheric science community. Our programme includes the fundamentals of atmospheric science, the practicalities of making measurements and the use of different models.
At NCAS we work with partners across the world to better livelihoods. One of the projects we are currently working on is the WISER EWSA, which aims to improve early warning services in Southern Africa by introducing nowcasting. This talk will give you a brief overview of our activities in Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa.
The FAAM Airborne Laboratory is an NCAS-managed research facility dedicated to advancing atmospheric science. It has been in operation since 2004, and is currently undergoing its Mid-Life Upgrade, a £49 million programme of modernisation and upgrades of the FAAM airborne laboratory to safeguard the facility until 2040, provide frontier science capability and reduce its environmental impact. The programme will improve the aircraft’s atmospheric measurement capabilities, developing new instrumentation and upgrading existing ones.
Oleg Kozhura, Mid-Life Upgrade Science Delivery Coordinator, will introduce FAAM and its current and future capabilities.
Sharing who we are at CEDA, what we do and how we support great atmospheric science. I'll be letting you know how we can help support your research and giving you the opportunity to make suggestions about our services.
An introduction to the long term measurements made by NCAS, why we make them and their importance in establishing a baseline and supporting atmospheric science. NCAS support measurements at the BT Tower, Weybourne Atmospheric Observatory and the Cabo Verde Atmospheric Observatory as well as others.
An opportunity to ask questions of all the presenters, find out more and explore other ideas.
