A chance non-coders to try out coding and give it a go. This workshop will create a beginner friendly environment for those working in atmospheric science, but who don't use coding in their everyday role.

Meet individuals in similar research fields to yours, make connections with those skilled in coding languages you aspire to learn, or connect with people working on projects aligned with your interests. Relax, share who you are and brainstorm fresh ideas in a friendly environment.
Workshop in the Sky Lounge
What is the issue with words like ‘temperature records’, and what’s the difference between terms like ‘global warming’ and ‘climate chaos’? Why do certain words and phrases trigger some of us, and don’t affect others? How do we navigate the line between doom and delusion when talking about the state of our planet?
This workshop will offer you an insight into why storytelling works as an emotional trigger and how to use it effectively.

While working in research can be a fun and rewarding experience, it can also be extremely stressful. Impostor syndrome, unhealthy culture in academia & uncertain job prospects are among the reasons why up to 36% of researchers seek help for anxiety or depression. In this talk/seminar, we will discuss the main challenges researchers face, propose solutions and share best practices to improve one's well-being.
Case-study format, discussion in small groups & feedback to session.

Join us to celebrate Open Data Day, a global annual event held this year from March 1 - 7, to promote openly-accessible data. The domain of atmospheric science relies on data to represent and store information about observations and model simulations and there are numerous sources of open earth/ocean science data that can be utilised.
The theme for this year is 'Open Data to Tackle the Polycrisis' , so to get a feel for how open data is advancing environmental research, as a group we will investigate such open data sources, starting from NCAS' very own CEDA repository, with the aim to scope out datasets that could together be used to study effects of environmental phenomena such as weather and climate on aspects of the polycrisis such as inequalities, resilience to natural hazards, and conflicts.
