Welcome back from the organising committee.
A series of three 20 minute talks on integrity in fieldwork, recruitment top tips, and people led science communication.
Drawing on experiences from polar fieldwork, this talk explores how integrity-driven decision-making can keep teams safe, supported, and motivated.
By highlighting key positive practices and common pitfalls, these lessons are applicable to anyone working in team environments - including computer-based researchers & modellers.
Imogen is a PhD student researching Arctic aerosols at NCAS & the Institute of Climate and Atmospheric Science, University of Leeds. Her research combines both modelling & field observations, with the objective of improving the representation of cloud-forming aerosols in Global Climate Models.
Distant, uncertain, incomprehensible - that’s what some say climate change feels like. Similarly, concepts like the atmosphere and weather can seem too abstract to grasp to someone outside the science community.
Add a sprinkle of complex scientific terminology, and these topics become a great communications challenge. How do we solve it? By focusing on the one thing we all understand - people. This talk explores why and how we focus on scientists to humanise the work they do.
Ilze works in the Communications Team as the Digital Communications Coordinator, and has years of experience in media production, communications, and copywriting. Outside of NCAS, she is a filmmaker and a poet, with a focus on environmental storytelling.
Frances works as the Inclusion Coordinator for NCAS, working on developing inclusive recruitment and engagement practises across the organisation.
They have worked within the organisation for nearly seven years, working between several teams and roles. Over this time they have supported events, administration, recruitment, and advocated for equality, diversity and inclusion, including managing the Community for Change initiative.
Having been a part of every stage of recruitment, from chairing interview panels, to supporting, and being the candidate, they are sharing their knowledge of the process.
