Membership Requirements

"Citizenship. Scholarship. Leadership. Service. Character. These are the five pillars of NJHS."

Annual Membership Dues

Members are required to pay annual membership dues to keep the organization running. $10 must be paid every year by returning members. When new members are inducted, they pay $15 to help pay for cost of maintaining our national affiliation with NJHS, but do not have to pay membership dues for another calendar year.

For example, if Member A was inducted in the Spring of 2022 and paid $15, they will not have to pay membership dues until August of 2023, and at that point, they will pay $10.

Payments are accepted via cash or by a check made out to New Braunfels Middle School (please write NJHS on the notes line).

Volunteer Service Hours

One of the pillars of NJHS is service which means that NJHS members must serve their school and the community around them. In order to maintain membership, NJHS members must complete four hours of community service each semester and during the summer months. Members will have access to an official log to keep record of the service hours that they complete. For ideas on community service activities, check out the "Community Service" tab.

Academics

Another pillar of NJHS is scholarship which means that NJHS members strive to earn and maintain high grades in all of their classes. At the end of every nine weeks, NJHS members must have at least a 90 average when all of their classes are combined.

Conduct

NBMS NJHS members pride themselves on showing good character and leadership. In fact, its quite common for faculty and community members to comment on the exceptional conduct shown by our NJHS members both in school and out in the community. That being said, we maintain that reputation by sticking to strict guidelines. Poor reports on behavior from teachers or other faculty members will automatically lead to the member being placed on probation. Being placed in ISS, OSS, DAEP or getting a complaint from a community member will automatically lead to dismissal from the chapter.

Participation

Members are required to attend monthly meetings and are encouraged to volunteer and serve on a committee. Members are allowed one absence per year which must be followed by a note from a parent/guardian. There will also be two service projects throughout the year in which members must attend at least one. If a member has another school activity (sports practice, sectionals, etc.) we encourage the member to talk to their coach/teacher and figure it out with them due to the fact that meetings are only once a month for thirty minutes.
