Math: We will finish our unit with comparing and rounding decimal numbers. Next week, we will take the test. 

9/21/26

Reading: Starting this week, your child will be bringing home their guided reading passage to practice. We read it every day in class and discuss comprehension questions, but now you can do it as well. We will still have the quiz every Friday. We will be finishing our text, Airborn, this week. Then we will start a play called "The Miracle of Spring," where each student will take on a role. 

Writing: Starting this week, your child will be bringing home a list of 10 spelling words every Monday. We will test on Friday. I encourage them to say each letter sound as they are spelling the word as it helps with the spelling process. In class, we will also be practicing our words. For writing, we will be working on creating a creature and writing about it. We will be using descriptive language so the reader can "see" our creature. Of course, capitals, punctuation, and complete sentences will also be a focus. 

Math: We are continuing our place value unit. This week, we are working on reading and writing decimal numbers before we move on to comparing them later in the week. 

9/8/26- The beginning of the week is hard with lots of tired students. While I do understand, because many times I am tired too, we will continue working through our sleepiness with no naps. Please help your child get to bed on time every night. 

Reading/Language Arts- We will be starting our station groups this week. During stations, your child will meet with me daily to work on phonics skills needed to accuracy and fluent reading. They will also meet with a paraprofessional to work on reading a passage at their level working on accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. There will be a quiz on this passage, but I am waiting to see if we do that every week or everyother week. While working on their own they will engage in a reading or phonics based task as well as have time to practice their spelling words. At this point, I am trying to determine if we will work with our spelling words for 1 week or 2 weeks before getting new words. The spelling words link is above. 

During whole group, we are working on comprehension using the Into Reading textbook. Our first unit is What a Story, which focuses on a lot of fantasy text. We will also work on our writing skills during this time. We will engage in many different types of writing and project based writing. 

5th Math- We are starting Unit 3 Place Value. We will be reviewing place value with whole numbers before we start working with decimals. Once we understand place value with whole numbers and decimals, we will move onto comparing and ordering decimals.
