You MUST use a tablet or Smart Phone with a built in camera to scan the answer sheets.
Open the ZIpGrade app. Select the Quiz you want to grade.
If the answer key has been set up, you will be able to select Scan Papers. Allow camera access if you haven't already.
Align the four black corner squares on the answer sheet with the four squares on the screen. The app will automatically capture the image, and will confirm with a shutter click noise and a vibration if using a phone.
You can then either review or make changes to the answer sheet, or simply continue scanning answer sheets.
Change Student: Associate this scan with entered student information. We do not recommend entering student information due to FERPA.
Erase Paper: Erase this capture.
Review Paper: Look at this paper's results.
USING MULTIPLE KEYS
To scan and score tests with multiple keys without entering student data, it will only take a few more steps than with entering the data. While you can enter student information, we discourage you from doing so without getting consent from students. Please note: ZipGrade is not FERPA compliant and may compromise student information.
Follow the directions for scanning a test as usual. Once done, you can go into the app or the website and designate a specific key for each scan. The app will default to the first key entered, so you will only need to change the answer sheets that use other keys.
ON DESKTOP: Select the quiz you need to work with. Under Graded Papers, select the student paper that needs to be updated. Select Change Key. Select the version of the test this student took. Select Save. ZipGrade will automatically update the grade.
ON MOBILE: Select the quiz you need to work with. Select Review Papers. Select the student paper that needs to be updated. In the top right, select the menu with the three bars. Select Edit Answers. At the top, where it says Key: A, select A and a dropdown menu will appear. Select the correct Key. ZipGrade will automatically update the grade.
EDITING RESPONSES*
The feature for editing student responses should be used with caution so as not to compromise the integrity of test results. A situation in which you may find that editing a student's test response would be appropriate is as follows:
While we strongly recommend that students use ZipGrade with pencil and eraser, sometimes the eraser may not do a good job, or the student still uses a pen. If they bubble in an answer, then change their mind, ZipGrade might record two answers and therefore give no credit.
*The Editing Responses action can only be completed on a tablet or smart phone. To Edit Responses:
Open the ZipGrade app. Select the test, then select Review Papers. Select the Student whose answer sheet needs editing. In the top right, select the menu with the three bars. Select Edit Answers. From this screen, simply tap an X to deselect it, or tap an answer to select it.
Select the back button and the grade will automatically recalculate.
Tip: to view the edited papers on Desktop, select the Cloud icon (Account) in the bottom menu, and select Sync. Wait a minute, refresh your desktop and the changes will be reflected.
