1) Select Quizzes on the website⬇ or app ➡
2) Select New Quiz.
3) Enter Quiz Name, select the size of the Answer Sheet (20, 50, or 100 - always round up the number of questions you have), and select the Date the exam will be given. Online Open Submission is for if the test is given remotely, and selecting Classes is for if you enter your students' information (this is not recommended due to FERPA). Save Quiz.
4) Select Edit Answer Keys (or Edit Key on Mobile).
5) Begin entering your answers using ABCDE as the choices. On desktop, type in the answers. On mobile, simply tap the correct answer bubble. You may have to update your tests to reflect these choices if you use 1234. Check out this quick tutorial if you use numbered lists for your multiple choice answers.
6a) ON DESKTOP: As you enter the answers, ZipGrade defaults to making each question worth 1 point. If all of the questions are worth the same AND worth more than 1 point each, edit the Default Point Value at the top of page. If point value changes within the assessment, you will have to manually edit the points. (Tip: Do not use the arrows that pop up when you select the points box. Each click edits the point value by 0.0001).
If you have fewer exam questions than the answer sheet can hold, leave the rest blank. Save Key at the top or bottom of the page once you finish.
6b) ON MOBILE: As you enter the answers, ZipGrade defaults to making each question worth 1 point. If any questions (or all questions) are worth more than 1 point, you will have to manually change the value. Select the current point value or the info icon to the right of the answer options; this will open the Answer Detail area. Tap on the 1 on the Pt line and change it to the correct value. Select the back button and confirm the change. Repeat for each question worth more than 1 point. If you have fewer exam questions than the answer sheet can hold, leave the rest blank. When finished, select the back arrow to return to the Quiz page.
MULTIPLE CORRECT ANSWERS
If there are multiple correct answers to a question (either multiple must be selected to be correct or multiple options are acceptable answers) you can set this up within step 6a or 6b.
ON DESKTOP: Select +Answer on the question that has multiple answers. Set up the point system as desired.
ON MOBILE: While in the Answer Detail area, select Add Answer (or + Alt. Answer). Set up the point system as desired.
Tip: This is a great feature if you find an error in the key after the assessment is given, but you don't want to punish those who selected your incorrect answer. Make the changes, and ZipGrade will automatically recalculate the grades.
MULTIPLE KEYS TO ONE TEST
While editing the Answer Key, select Add New Key (or Add Key).
Decide if you will be Mapping the questions (shuffling the same questions) or Providing the answers (manual input of new answer key). If you are Mapping the Key, you will need to know the new question number for each question from the original key, and match them up. For example, Question 1 in the original Key is Question 13 in the new Key. The answers choice must be the same (not shuffled).
Tip: If you have multiple keys, have the students indicate which test version they are taking on their Answer Sheet. This will make it easier for you when grading.
PRINTING ANSWER SHEETS
ON DESKTOP: On the ZipGrade home page, select Answer Sheets. Select the 20, 50, or 100 Question Form. (Note: There is a 2-per-page option for the 20 Question sheet further down the page.) When the PDF opens, print as many as you need.
ON MOBILE: Your phone must be connected to a wireless printer. Along the bottom menu, select Account with the cloud icon. Scroll to the bottom and select Blank Sheets. Select the question form you need. Select Print. Change the settings as you need, including selecting the printer that will be used.
Tip: If you are using mobile but cannot print, you can print standard ZipGrade answer sheets from any computer without logging in. Just follow the Desktop directions above.
You can print custom answer sheets for any Quiz you create, but this involves creating classes and entering student information, which could be a FERPA violation. Please reach out to TLT to discuss this option.
