Respondus LockDown Browser

Activating Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor

When giving high stakes exams in a non-proctored environment, it is advised that faculty enable both Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor.  In addition to the secure browsing capabilities of LockDown Browser, Monitor uses a student’s web cam to record their test and flag questionable behaviors.  Recordings and identified flags can be reviewed by faculty after the exam.

Important Note:  It is also recommended that faculty deliver a practice low stakes exam in their course using LockDown Browser and Monitor in their course ahead of any high stakes assessment. This will reduce student anxiety and decrease the likelihood of student experiencing technical difficulties on the day of the exam.

Additional training materials and resources can be found the Respondus Monitor support site.  Given the complexities of using these tools, faculty are also welcome to attend a webinar offered by Respondus fully understand the settings and best practice for using this tool.

The use of Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor requires students to download the LockDown Browser application to their personal computer. If students have security concerns relating to this application, you should refer them to the Respondus Privacy Statement.
