Using Groupings

The Groupings feature allows you to create sets of groups in your course. This advanced feature is helpful for having student work in different groups in different activity during the course.  Once groupings have been created, specific groupings can then be applied to different activities within your course.

Note: To use the Groupings feature, you must have previously created groups in your course.

Step 1:  Within the course page header, click Participants

Step 2: From the Participants screen select Groups from the drop-down menu.

Step 3:  With your set of groups already created, click the Groupings tab.

Step 4: Click Create grouping

Step 5:  Enter a Grouping name.

Step 6: Click Save changes when finished.

Repeat steps 4-6 to create additional groupings as needed. 

Step 8: To place groups into a grouping, click the profile icon.

Step 9: Click on the group name in the Potential members field. 

Tip: You can select multiple groups by holding the shift key while selecting groups

Step 10: Click Add  to move groups into the grouping.

Step 11: Verify the groups appear in the Existing members field.

Step 12: Click Back to groupings when finished.

Groups that are part of  each grouping will appear on the Groupings screen.
