" Towards Sustainability"
Dear Students, Wishing you a very Happy World Book Day !
World Book Day is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Each year, on 23rd April, celebrations take place all over the world to promote the joy of reading and to pay tribute to books- a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures.
Since Copyright issues concern the world of books and writing, there is always a focus on this issue on the World Book Day. That's why, in many parts of the world, this day is also known as the World Book and Copyright Day.
The first ever World Book Day was celebrated on April 23, 1995. The date was decided by UNESCO as 23 rd April is a symbolic date for world literature. It is on this date in 1616 that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, HaldorK.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, JosepPla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.
And what is more, it also marks the birth anniversary of William Shakespeare, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English Language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist.
Do you know that children who regularly read for enjoyment have higher test scores, develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures than their non-reading counterparts? Whether you read traditional paper bound books or turn to your Kindle or your I Pad, reading is a passport to this and many other worlds.
At NISV, it is our constant endeavor to develop a whole-school reading environment, with a treasure trove of books to cater to every taste and imagination. Come and harness your inner book worm! What better time than now, when you want to overcome your loneliness at home.
Students, I urge you to read, so you never feel alone. That is the power of books!
Don't miss the Ted talk and Reading song....
Come; celebrate with us on April 25!
Nupur Ma'am.
