Republic Day is celebrated on January 26 every year to remember the day when the Constitution of India came into effect after India gained independence, after a very long freedom struggle. Dr. Rajendra Prasad heralded the historic birth of the Indian Republic on that day. Thereafter 26th of January was decreed a national holiday and was recognized as the Republic Day of India.
Ever since the historic day, January 26 is celebrated with festivities and patriotic fervor all around the country.
Republic Day Highlights: India celebrated its 76th Republic Day on Sunday, January 26, 2025, with the iconic parade at Kartavya Path leading the celebrations. The day marks 75th anniversary of India's Constitution coming into effect. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge extended their greetings to the people on Republic Day.
The theme of Republic Day 2025 is Swarnim Bharat – Virasat aur Vikas' (Golden India – Heritage and Development), reflecting India's rich cultural heritage and its ongoing journey of progress.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the chief guest for Republic Day 2025, marking a significant milestone in the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Indonesia.
