Week of May 26 Activities:
Grade 4 and 5: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE - Learn about Rossini and play along with the William Tell Overture (Activities 1-3). Practice the fun stick activity in the video below which classes had done in school. There is an additional Just Dance video and a rock version. Also, Grade 5 students may visit the Recorder Karate section to do a recorder play along to the William Tell Overture to review some notes.
Grade 5 students practice your graduation song "Wonderful Life" that was posted last week. Classes have been practicing their singing outdoors!
Stick Play Along -When students pass their sticks, try tossing left/right sticks from one hand to another by yourself.

Grade 4 & 5: VISIT MUSICPLAY ONLINE - Learn about La Bamba and Ritchie Valens. Sing and play bucket drum with "La Bamba".
Grades 4 & 5: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE - Do the Rhythm Practice and Play-along, the body percussion activities with a composition (Activities 3-7), then skip to creating a ball bouncing activity at the end.
Grades 4 & 5: Try out the Cup Rhythm games below. You will need to find a sturdy cup. Then go to Musicplay Online -learn the body percussion to "Ode to Joy", sing "One Planet" (try the sign language), watch the Dynamics video #9 and listen to Handel's Concerto, learn about the composer and try the rhythm challenge (activities 11, 12, 13)

I like to substitute tapping the top of the cup twice for the eighth notes instead of rocking side to side.
Grades 4 & 5: Visit Musicplay Online -Watch and learn Christian's body percussion. Read the rhythms and compose your own pattern. Then learn the song "One Planet" with the sign language.
Grade 4 & 5: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE - Learn the song "Mi Conijito" which is a spanish Easter song, and tap along with the rhythms (activities 2 & 3). Then compose a spring song using notes C,D,E, G, A and use the virtual glockenspiel to play it (activities 6 & 7). If you have a piano or keyboard at home you may choose to play your melody on that.

Grab a bucket (or plastic container) and some sticks to learn the patterns to TREPAK(Russian Dance) from the Nutcracker. Then learn some movements. Follow Miss Watson in the video below as she describes what to do for the form AABA -the A part is a rhythm pattern and the B is a copycap (echo pattern).

Grade 5 - It won't be long before graduation! I've reposted your graduation song, "Hello, Goodbye" which was a previous lesson - keep practicing! Ruby and Olivia - hope you will lead us?
Grade 4 (and 5) A Blues lesson is also posted. Learn about the blues, listen to some, and then write your own with the included directions and worksheet. There may be a lot that you are down and out about and what better way to express it than in song! That's what the blues are all about. Then sing with the accompaniment track!

These are some basic repetitive actions. Give them a try and teach to someone else in your family (or do a duet)!
It all starts with a simple beat. Then add body percussion, directional movement and even some sound effects.
4 Different Sizes of Recorders -When 4 people play it is called a Quartet
We can create a theme and variations form by playing a melody and then varying it each time to make it slightly different. In this example I use Hot Cross Buns as the theme. Can you name all the ways that I vary it? Challenge: Come up with another variation on your own. For example, How else might you change the rhythm of the melody?
If you don't have a recorder at home you can still practice the songs on a virtual keyboard (on your computer) or from a piano app on your ipad (there are several but I prefer Piano HD because you can record yourself!) On your computer use https://www.musicca.com/piano.
