Grade 3: Visit Musicplay Online - Learn the song "I Love the Mountains" which is in 2 parts (activities 4&5). Learn about Theme and Variations -listen to Twinkle Twinkle and try singing 3 variations, then listen to Mozart's variations (activities 6-15).

Grades 2 and 3:
Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE for some some St. Patrick's Day activities. Do activities 3-6 -body percussion, jig, and rhythms.
Also visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE - Learn the song "Stella Ella Ola" and the French song "Aloutte". Then learn about the composer Strauss and use paper plates or scarf to do movements to the music Roses from the South.
Grade 2 & 3: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE - Learn and sing "Old Blue" (activity 4) then do the Rhythm Interactive and Rhythm Worksheet (activities 7 & 8). Move to Irish Reel and/or Turkish March. There are 2 Irish movement activities below.

Grades 2 and 3: Visit MUSIC PLAY ONLINE to learn the "Lollipop Tree" and pay attention to the speed of the music. Then learn about Handel -listen to "Water Music" and do the scarf activity. There are some additional candy songs below.
Grade 2: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE Sing and do movements to the song "Ham and Eggs" -learn about form and tempo. Sing or do movements to the song I'sy the B'ye and learn about New Foundland. Do paper plate movements as you listen to "Rondeau".
Grade 3: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE Learn to sing "Coy Melindo". Review the "E Papa" stick game from New Zealand and practice it with someone at home! Then learn about sea shanteys and try the cup activity to Donkey Riding. Listen to Sarabande and mirror the actions with paper plates.
Grades 2 and 3: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE Do Activities #5&6. Practice doing movements to Musette with a scarf and learn "Ton Moulin" -learn the actions and try them with someone at home! This is a French song which you can view below -it has a link to the translation. Then practice some Valentines rhythms with the video below (either clap or choose something to play from home).

Clap or Play Along with an Instrument
Grade 2: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE -Learn the song "Love Grows Under" and play along with body percussion or instruments. Learn about the Black Foot Nation and learn "Gitsigakomim" using shakers or drum to accompany and then learn the stick game.
Grade 3: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE - do all activities!
Grade 2 and 3: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE to learn about sea chanteys and learn how to sing the response to Haul on the Bowlin'. Practice echo singing do-mi-so patterns (activity 4) Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE to learn the fun song Yummy Yum Yum and learn the "meatballs and spaghetti" part (can you make up some other verses?) and enjoy doing Head and Shoulders with the students. I bet you can come up with some other actions to do with your family members at home!
Grades 2 and 3: Vist MUSICPLAY ONLINE
For a challenge try the Note Name Memory Game. Practice rhythm reading with the Ball Bouncing activities (if you can't do all the notes, just try a few). Then read, sing, and play the notes B and A on a virtual xylophone (A and B Blues). Once you've practiced, try composing your own melody with these 2 notes! I'd love to hear what you come up with or see a picture of it!

Grade 2: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE -Review "Apples, Peaches, Pears, Plums" and try the skipping activity with it. Create movements to the Goldberg Variations by Bach (you learned about him last week). Play and compose to "I Like to Play the Instruments" and have fun moving to Oliver Twist!
Grade 3: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE - Review the song "Donkeys Love Carrots", then learn about the song "Sakura" and try singing it. You can make a paper fan and create movements to go with the song. Then listen to and learn about Taiko drumming.

Use 1 sound, 2 sounds, or rest in each beat box. Choose an instrument to play or clap along.
Don't forget to hold over to the next beat box on the half note! Have fun
Grade 2: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE -Learn about the composer Bach and tap along with his music using your choice of an instrument (or create movements). Listen to the song "Apples, Peaches, Pears, Plums" and choose instruments or sounds to go with the months, then sing along with the solfege syllables. Once you know the song well click on this INTERACTIVE BOOMWHACKER to play the song using notes C , A , F (so, mi, do). Try making up your own song with your favorite fruit names!
Grade 3: Visit MUSICPLAY ONLINE - Listen to "January First" a Japanese New Year Song and learn about the Koto (Activities 6-10). Watch my video below to see how to play 3 different rhythm patterns with the song using quarter and half notes. Then learn the song "Donkeys Love Carrots" (Activities 11 and 12) and try singing in a round with the class along with the actions! Mrs. Poitras misses singing with you so much!
The 3 patterns I demonstrate use the quarter note and the half note.
A repeated pattern used in a song is called an OSTINATO. Try one!

To make your own instrument kit, you will need to find a wood, scraper or shaker, something metal, and a drum type instrument. The kitchen is an awesome place to find these things - wooden spoons, cheese grater, metal measuring cups, rice-filled containers, buckets, etc. If you'd like to create something fancier, there are some crafty ideas below for additional home-made instruments! Have an adult help with glue and scissors.

Let's take a trip to the Alps, high in the mountains where the animal herders sing and call using a vocal technique called YODELLING. Yodellers hate to be interuppted but in this song it happens over and over - Help me sing to find out what happens!
Then try learning a German "slap dance" called Schohplettler which I will teach you, and listen to the sounds of the Alp horn - is another way of communicating high in those mountains!
