Open Slides, right click the title slide and choose Apply Layout - Blank
MUST DO: change the page format:

choose CUSTOM
Change the page settings to 8 x 5 inches

Last name, first initial, space, teacher last name.
Insert - Text Box at the top of the page, type your first and last name, then you can change size and style of text;
Make sure your name at big and seen on your page.
You can change your background color!
Be sure the text size is legible, at least 14-20 point, but not so large that it takes up too much space.

Today we will start our biography pages for the yearbook!
For the next two weeks, all fifth graders will create their biography pages using Google Slides. Follow the directions below:
Directions for Eddy Yearbook Slide 2022:
Sign into your Google account.
Open Slides, right click the title slide and choose Apply Layout - Blank
Next go to FILE - Page Setup, click the box that says Widescreen 16:9, and choose CUSTOM - Change the page settings to 8 x 5
Insert - Text Box at the top of the page, type your first and last name, then you can change size and style of text;
Use Arrange - Center on Page - Horizontal to fully center your name at the top of your page.
Insert - Text Box, Use these tools to create a background color, border, border thickness or design;
It works best to put this text box in a corner of your document, with single spacing.
Be sure the text size is legible, at least 12 or 14 point, but not so large that it takes up too much space.

1) Who was Rube Goldberg and what is a Rube Goldberg Machine?
RUBE GOLDBERG (1883-1970) was a cartoonist, an inventor, and the only person ever to be listed in Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary as an adjective. Of the nearly 50,000 cartoons he drew in his lifetime, Rube is best known for the zany contraptions of Professor Butts. These inventions, also known as Rube Goldberg Machines, solved a simple task in the most overcomplicated, inefficient, and hilarious way possible.
Rube Goldberg lives on in pop culture and is referenced daily in both print and digital media. His name is searchable, hash-taggable, and at best viral. But nowhere is his legacy more celebrated than through the competitions that bear his name.
Let's discuss simple machines and how they help us every day!

Today we will take a screen shot of Google Maps and you will either add points of interest to the area around school or show us your route to school.
Mrs. Noonan will show you how to take a screen shot (if you don't know) and then how to edit.
You will create a Slides presentation with the photo(s).

Icon Scaventure Hunt
Today we will create a slides show by finding and taking a screen shot of the 8 icons that you choose.
Mrs. Noonan will show you how to take a screen shot (if you don't know) and then edit it to highlight the icons you choose.

Solve all six Graph Paper Programming pictures. Write your name on top of your paper. Show Mrs. Noonan when finished.
Using plain Graph Paper, create a picture of your choice. Using Paper Programming, create a program to share with a friend.
When finished programming, give the programming instructions (not the picture) to your friend and see if they draw the picture correctly!

1) Who was Rube Goldber and what is a Rube Goldberg Machine?
RUBE GOLDBERG (1883-1970) was a cartoonist, an inventor, and the only person ever to be listed in Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary as an adjective. Of the nearly 50,000 cartoons he drew in his lifetime, Rube is best known for the zany contraptions of Professor Butts. These inventions, also known as Rube Goldberg Machines, solved a simple task in the most overcomplicated, inefficient, and hilarious way possible.
Rube Goldberg lives on in pop culture and is referenced daily in both print and digital media. His name is searchable, hash-taggable, and at best viral. But nowhere is his legacy more celebrated than through the competitions that bear his name.

Demonstration of Google Slides will be done in class before going outside.
