Travel information
Traveling to Flagstaff by Car
Flagstaff is easily accessible by car, being a major stop along the historic Route 66 and intersected by Interstate 40. It’s an excellent option for those who enjoy scenic drives.
From Phoenix: Take I-17 North directly to Flagstaff. The drive is approximately 2.5 hours and offers stunning views of Arizona's landscapes.
From Las Vegas: Drive southeast on US-93, merge onto I-40 East, and continue to Flagstaff. This route takes about 4 hours and passes through the Mojave Desert.
From Albuquerque: Head west on I-40 to reach Flagstaff in about 4.5 hours, traversing the beautiful high desert scenery.
Parking is available in designated NAU visitor lots (details here), as well as street parking along Franklin Avenue and South San Francisco Street, which costs about $1 per hour (map here).
Traveling to Flagstaff by Air
Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) is the primary gateway by air, though it's a smaller regional airport.
Airlines: American Airlines offers flights to Flagstaff, primarily connecting through Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) or Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
Services: Despite its size, the airport provides essential services including car rentals, taxi services, and a waiting area.
Alternative Airports: For more flight options, consider flying into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and driving to Flagstaff.
Shuttle/Bus Service from Phoenix to Flagstaff
For those preferring not to drive, shuttle services offer a convenient alternative:
Groome Transportation: This shuttle service operates daily between Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and Flagstaff, providing multiple trips each day. Reservations can be made online, and door-to-door service is available in Flagstaff. The travel time is approximately 2.5 hours.
Greyhound: Bus travel is available daily between Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and Flagstaff Train Station, conveniently located in the heart of downtown and just 0.5 miles from campus. The travel time is approximately 2.5 hours.
