Come by and say hi to our amazing GELL Center Assistants (Tesla, Liv, Grayson, Andy, and Minami)! The Global Engagement and Language Learning Center would be nothing without them!
Our GCAs are here to help you sign in, use computer and printing services, access elements of the media library you might need help with, and generally provide support.
Speaking of signing in: When you visit the GELL Center, we ask you to please remember to sign in and out on the wall mounted iPads near the entrance. This helps us collect general usage data used in requesting financial support for the Center (no personal information is shared outside of the department; your attendance data is confirmed with your instructor on request). For activities requiring advance registration such as group conversations, please check in with the GELL Center Assistant at the front desk first.
The GELL Center aims to provide a safe, relaxed, and supportive environment for language learning, research, and cultural exchange. This policy outlines the rules and guidelines for utilizing the center to ensure a productive and respectful atmosphere for all users.
Access and Hours:
The GELL Center is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members during posted hours.
Please sign in and out at the iPads, whether you are NAU students or community members. This use-data is primarily applied in requests for funding continuation.
Center hours are subject to change during holidays and special events.
Reservations:
Conversation Group and Language Coaching sessions, among other services, can be reserved in advance using the online booking system on our website.
Users must check in within 5 minutes of their session, or the reservation may be forfeited.
Behavior and Conduct:
The GELL Center is meant to be a safe and relaxed place to learn and explore language and culture: Please extend respect and consideration to your fellow learners, conversation facilitators, and GELL Center assistants. Continued disruptive behavior despite a request for moderation will necessitate the individual's departure from the premises.
Conversations and group work are highly encouraged, but noise levels should be kept to a reasonable level.
Mobile phones must be set to silent/vibrate mode, and phone calls should be taken outside the center.
Food and beverages are not permitted, except for water in sealed containers.
Users must clean up after themselves and dispose of any trash properly.
Use of Resources:
Computers, software, and other resources are for educational purposes only.
Users must log in with their university credentials to access computers.
Any issues with resources should be reported to center staff immediately.
Printing:
Printing services are available for use for courses in Global Languages and Cultures only.
Users are encouraged to print responsibly and minimize waste.
Personal Belongings:
Users are responsible for their personal belongings. The center is not liable for lost or stolen items.
Unattended belongings may be removed by center staff.
Emergency Procedures:
In case of an emergency, follow the center's posted emergency procedures and exit routes.
Report any suspicious activity or safety concerns to center staff immediately.
Failure to comply with the GELL Center Space-Use Policy may result in the suspension of center privileges. The center reserves the right to amend this policy as necessary.
