To our Puma Families & Scholars from our Principal, Mrs. Jarrell -

Our community is working diligently to develop resources and learning opportunities to engage and enrich our scholars' distance learning for the next several weeks.

As a Principal and PVS Parent, I think it is important to emphasize that distance learning is not about families replicating the school environment or the PVS curriculum at home. I would recommend not filling your scholars' day with worksheets, you are not a homeschool teacher. We are in the beginnings of a world, nation, and statewide system shut down and all of our children are processing, as are we, that they will not be able to be with their friends or teachers for the foreseeable future.

One of the best things we can all do is to engage with our children. Play a board game, do dishes while singing songs, bake, paint, dance, garden, go for a walk, take online yoga, read, start a gratitude journal, teach children how to do laundry, vacuum, and create their own daily schedule.

Remember to give them time alone, too, ask them to read to you, ask them to tell you a story, ask them to sing you a song. Allow screen tie to be a way to connect with teachers, classmates, and friends. Being with them and showing them that everything is going to be OK is one of the greatest teachings you can provide.

It is ok to be their parent, grandparent, family member and NOT their teacher. Team Puma is working to make sure your child, our children, have the tools needed to succeed in school. We are here as your education partners so allow yourself to enjoy being a family, too.
