Greek and Latin Roots Doodle Notes: study families of words that share common Greek and Latin Roots. This doodle-note method engages students with sketching and a fun, hands-on approach to learning roots. Grades 2-8

English From the Roots Up: Recognizing Greek or Latin roots in English words enables the student to determine the definition and spelling of unknown words. Each lesson begins with one Greek or Latin word, teaches the meaning, then gives a list from three to ten English words derived from the root word. This program requires teacher presentation and interaction through the use index cards instead of a workbook. A 2nd volume is targeted for a slightly older student and shouldn’t be used until volume 1 has been mastered. Great for students who need social interaction. Grades 2-8.

Wordly Wise 3000: The words chosen for this program were selected to expand critical grade level vocabulary and improve reading comprehension. Words from each lesson are commonly encountered in grade-level literature, content-area reading, textbooks, and tests – including the PSAT, SAT, and ACT. Students can work independently most of the time. This program appeals to those who can work independently. Grades 2-8.

Evan Moor--Daily Academic Vocabulary: 36 weeks of systematic vocabulary instruction and direct instruction of key vocabulary words that students will encounter in many different academic contexts and learning experiences. Students will practice words through speaking, listening, reading, and writing. There is an easy-to-follow teacher page for each week and weekly reviews in test format. Each teacher page includes definitions and example sentences for the weeks words; instruction focuses on personal connections to the words. The student practice pages for Monday through Thursday include three or four daily items that focus on using the words in a scholastic or personal context. The student practice pages for Friday include four multiple-choice items that provide test prep and an open-ended writing activity requiring students to apply the words to personal experiences. Grades 2-8.
