Comprehensive Programs

A comprehensive Language Arts program covers all areas of study in one package (Reading, Writing, Spelling, and grammar).

Ready Reading: instruction uses a consistent Read, Think, Talk, Write model in which teacher-led discussion and collaboration with the student are central to achievement. Lessons scaffold to build students’ confidence as they develop important critical thinking and analytical skills. Students are immediately engaged by the variety of real-world source texts, from literature and poetry to blogs and news articles. Grades K-5.

Lightning Literature: "Reading should be fun, and writing should be satisfying." The author of this series believes this, and she has produced courses that try to keep that goal ever present. Lessons are well-constructed and the excellent and thorough coverage includes vocabulary, comprehension, literary elements, composition, grammar, and mechanics.

The three components of this program are designed to be complementary and to be used together. The Student Workbook is the student's textual companion as they study the literature selections. The Teacher Guide is the "glue" that holds the whole program together providing a philosophical and methodical overview of the program and a weekly planning schedule (lesson plans) as well as chapter-by-chapter answers and teaching helps. The last component is the excellent Literature Selections that are the heart of the program. Classics, familiar, non-familiar, poetry, and, occasionally, surprising choices all find their way onto the book lists for each grade level. Grades 1-8

Reading & English Lessons Through Literature: (Both books are needed to make this a complete Language Arts Curriculum.) Each volume is designed for the teacher and provides three lessons per week for 36 weeks . Each lesson follows a similar format. In each level, whole books are provided as read-alouds, with chapters to be read daily as the first lesson item (these need to be checked out of the library or purchased). Fables, stories, excerpts, and poetry are also regularly used. Occasionally, the student is asked to think about something from the reading, but the author avoids comprehension questions. Systematic grammar instruction starts in Level B and covers everything from punctuation to parts of speech to types of sentences and includes diagramming beginning in Level C. Levels D & E provide and appendix of additional writing lessons for older students. The author also encourages the use of a personal spelling journal. Writing instruction is also included. Grades 1-8.

Mosdos Press Literature Series: dedicated to excellence in the teaching of literature, writing, vocabulary, and language arts; and meeting the most stringent academic standards, our content is intellectually challenging and morally framed. This curriculum is rigorous and engaging, and thoughtfully explores positive ideals. The anthologies are organized by the story elements of plot, character, setting, and theme, as well as by genre. We anthologize excellent literature—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, the novella, and the novel. Each unit is used for the teaching of the key literary components and concepts. Inventive and innovative workbook exercises develop thinking and reasoning skills. Often funny and visually delightful, they take the tedium out of language and analytical exercises. The curriculum-rich Teacher’s Editions are detailed, well-organized, and innovative. Teachers use these books as their primary resource for creating lesson plans, developing differentiated instruction, as well as bringing enrichment and dynamic discussions to their students.
