Students begin to learn recorder in Grade 3 at Memorial School. In the Orff approach, recorder is taught as an isolated instrument and integrated into our other work as well (movement, ensemble playing, etc.). Please find below some basic information about recorder expectations and care.
Have you cleaned your recorder yet? Please do! Not only is it good for the recorder it’s good for your health too! Please follow these easy steps to get your recorder in tip top shape.
Step 1: Take recorder apart (there should only be three pieces)
Step 2: Place recorder in kitchen sink with warm, sudsy water (mild dish detergent works best)
Step 3: After soaking for 5-10 minutes rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
Tip: If the recorder doesn't go back together easily, apply a small amount of vaseline on the joints. This should lubricate things to make it easier.
Please don’t put your recorder in the dish washer. The recorder may come in contact with the heating element and melt!
Please don’t put tissues or paper towels inside of your recorder in order to clean or dry it. They may become lodged and can be difficult to remove.
