Answer:
I grade using the same 4 point scale as the ROSP. This is policy is outlined as follows:
4: Exceeding
This student consistently and independently exceeds the grade level standards of rigorous subject matter.
Students do not typically receive 4's on unit assessments as these are an assessment of student progress towards meeting a grade level skill. 4's are awarded on tasks that allow students to show their understanding beyond what is expected in grade 5.
3: Meeting
This student consistently and independently demonstrates mastery of/proficiency in the grade level standard.
2: Progressing
This student is developing concepts, processes, and skills of the grade level standard with some additional time and support.
1: Beginning
This student is beginning to progress toward the grade level standard with additional time and support.
Unit assessments for my classes are kept in Green "Math/Science Assessment Folders". These assessment folders will be sent home after students take unit assessments in math or science. Parents and guardians are asked to review the assessment with their student. Then you and your students are asked to sign off on having seen the assessment on the cover sheet located on the left side of the green folder. Assessment folders should be returned to me the following day. Information regarding when assessment folders are being sent home can be found on this link to my homework calendar. As always, if you or your student has any questions regarding an assessment feel free to get in contact with me. My e-mail address is ahaskell@natickps.org.
