Combined Searchable copy of the Newsletter

This project was an effort to prototype and document the process for creating and maintaining a searchable copy of all of the electronic copies of the Serenity Connection newsletter. The project was sponsored by the Western Regions, in cooperation with the World Service Newsletter Committee. The project has now been transitioned over to the World Service Office as part of their ongoing maintenace of the Nar-Anon.org website.

A PDF copy of the combined collection of the Newsletter for June 2012 through March 2026 is now available on the world service website on the Serenity Connection web page (https://www.nar-anon.org/serenity-connection/). Look under the collapsible section labeled "English Editions Archive".

You can then search this PDF once it is opened. Or you can download it to your computer and then open it.

Once opened, you can use "find / search" tools, such as ctrl-F.

Maintaining the Searchable Newsletter Collection

1. Open the current version with a PDF editor.

2. Go to the end of the document and add a new page with the month and year in a large font.

3. Append to the end of the document the pages from the new version of the Newsletter.

4. Go to the first page of the collection and update the date range.

5. Go to the second page of the collection and add the new month and year to the table of contents.

6. Insert a hyperlink over the month and year and link that text to the first page of the corresponding version within the searchable collection.

7. Save the updated PDF. (Note, the current version is saved in a folder under the robert@nar-anon.org account.)

8. Open the updated PDF with a PDF reader and verify the hyperlink works and verify the new version of the Serenity Connection is accessible and readable within the combined collection.
