Membership Requirements
All members of the Floyd County Youth Symphony must be registered members of their school band or orchestra, if offered by their school. Students must perform on the same instrument in both FCYS and their school ensemble. FCYS is an extension of the school ensemble experience, not a substitute for it.
Members of the Philharmonic Orchestra must also take weekly (or on a similar regular basis) private lessons on the instrument that they play in FCYS. Private lessons are strongly encouraged for members of the Prelude Orchestra, but not required.
Membership Fees
Fees will be due at the time of the first rehearsal. In addition to the fees listed below, there is a $20 non-refundable audition fee for all students that must be paid at the time of auditions.
Prelude Orchestra
$180 per yearÂ
Philharmonic Orchestra
$240 per year
Attendance Requirements
A commitment to regular attendance is essential to the musical quality of the orchestras. Directors and fellow players expect all orchestra members to be present and prepared at every rehearsal and performance. Absences must be communicated with directors.
