2026-2027 String Audition Information

General Audition Information and Requirements

• There is a $20 nonrefundable audition fee for all students.

• Auditions will take place at Floyd Central High School in the Orchestra Room.

• Students planning to audition must sign up for an audition date and time at think link: FCYS 2026 Audition Sign Up

Audition Dates

Monday, August 24, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM

Tuesday, August 25, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM

*If you cannot make any of these scheduled audition times or if a situation arises in which you will need to miss your scheduled audition time, please contact Jenny Casey (jcasey@nafcs.org) to make other arrangements.

Audition Requirements

Prelude Orchestra

1. A 1- or 2-octave scale of the student's choice. *If you can shift, please choose a scale that demonstrates shifting.

2. 30 seconds of a solo (student's choice) or an excerpt from the music that you are playing in your school orchestra.

3. One of the provided excerpts. *If you wish to audition for the front of your section of Violin 1, you must choose excerpt B (advanced).

Philharmonic Orchestra

1. Two assigned scales:

• Violin- 3 Octave G Major, 2 Octave A Melodic Minor

• Viola- 3 Octave C Major, 2 Octave D Melodic Minor

• Cello- 3 Octave C Major, 2 Octave D Harmonic Minor

• Bass- 2 Octave E Major, 2 Octave G Melodic Minor

2. 30 seconds of a Group I solo from the ISSMA List

3. An assigned excerpt: 2026 Philharmonic Excerpts
