Membership
Candidate Membership is a pre-membership status in which the student has shown interest through intent to become an NRHH member. The student must meet the following requirements to be classified as a Candidate Member:
Candidate Members must submit a formal intent of pre-membership to the chapter.
Candidate Members seeking induction must be students of the college or university with which the chapter is affiliated.
“Student” shall be defined by the chapter’s host institution.
Students pursuing undergraduate, graduate, or professional degrees are all eligible for induction.
Candidate Members shall follow the Recognition and Service requirements set forth by their chapter.
Requirements for Candidate Members should be less than or equal to the On-Campus and Off-Campus Member requirements.
At the time of induction, Candidate Members must be students in good academic standing, as defined by the affiliated institution and chapter.
Candidate Members must be living in institutionally owned or contracted housing and have lived in institutionally owned or contracted housing for at least one academic term, as defined by the affiliated institution, upon induction.
Candidate Members must have made positive contributions to the residence hall system through engagement with the values of service and recognition.
Once Candidate Members have met all NACURH and chapter requirements, they will be eligible for induction.
An On-Campus Member of an NRHH chapter is a member who lives in institutionally owned or contracted housing and meets the chapter and NACURH membership qualifications. The member must meet the following requirements to be classified as an On-Campus Member:
On-Campus Members must be students of the college or university with which the chapter is affiliated.
“Student” shall be defined by the chapter’s host institution.
On-Campus Members shall follow the Recognition and Service requirements set forth by their chapter.
On-Campus Members must continue to make positive contributions to the residence hall system through engagement with the values of service and recognition.
On-Campus Members must be a student in good academic standing, as defined by the affiliated institution and chapter.
An Off-Campus Member of an NRHH Chapter is a member who does not live in institutionally owned or contracted housing and meets the chapter and NACURH membership qualifications. The member must meet the following requirements to be classified as an Off-Campus Member:
At the discretion of the chapter, off-campus members may have the same voting rights and ability to serve on campus-level executive boards as on-campus members.
An Off-Campus Member must submit a NACURH written pledge for accountability approved by the chapter president and advisor.
Off-Campus Members must be students of the college or university with which the chapter is affiliated.
“Student” shall be defined by the chapter’s host institution.
Off-Campus Members shall follow the Recognition and Service requirements set forth by their chapter.
Off-Campus Members must continue to make positive contributions to the residence hall system through engagement with the values of service and recognition.
Off-Campus Members must be a student in good academic standing, as defined by the affiliated institution and chapter.
A Lifelong Member is a member of NRHH who is no longer affiliated with their host institution as a student due to either graduation or discontinuation of education.
Anyone who leaves the chapter and institution in institutional good standing and meets the chapter’s requirements for membership for life would become a Lifelong Member.
By becoming a Lifelong Member, a member would have to uphold the lifelong commitment to the NRHH Values of recognition and service.
Lifelong Members are eligible to participate in chapter-specific and NACURH activities at the discretion of NACURH Leadership and their chapter, respectively.

To keep the confidentiality of our members, this database will only be shared with NRHH Representatives and Advisors. It is the responsibility of the NRHH Representative to ensure an updated membership list for their chapter on our database.

Membership Forms
Usage
The New Member Registration will ensure an active record of all NRHH Membership.
Guidelines
The following guidelines apply to the procedure for registering new members:
After a candidate member has met all requirements for induction, a chapter representative must fill out a New Member Registration form.
The New Member Registration form shall be submitted to the region’s ADNRHH.
The New Member Registration form may be submitted prior to the formal induction ceremony, but must be completed within 2 weeks of chapter induction
Each year, the chapter’s membership shall be verified by their ADNRHH, with the Membership List submitted as part of the NRHH Census.
Discrepancies in membership found after completing the NRHH Census will need to be resolved to be fully affiliated.
Usage
NRHH members who do not live in institutionally owned or contracted housing are able to apply to have voting rights within their chapter.
Guidelines
The following guidelines apply to the procedure for the off-campus membership pledge:
The member and/or chapter must complete the NRHH Off-Campus Membership Pledge.
The form can be obtained from the region’s ADNRHH.
The form must include the electronic signatures of the chapter President and chapter advisor.
The form must be submitted electronically.
The completed Off-Campus Membership Pledge shall be submitted to the region’s ADNRHH for approval.
Submission of the Off-Campus Membership Pledge must occur on an annual basis for each year the Off-Campus member is seeking voting rights within their chapter.
It is the right of the region’s ADNRHH to deny requests for removal for reasons including, but not limited to:
Submission of an incomplete application form.
The region’s ADNRHH does not believe that the member applying for voting rights has provided sufficient evidence of their ability to serve the on-campus body or fulfill the requirements of the honorary.
If the member and/or chapter wish to appeal the decision of the region’s ADNRHH, they may appeal to the entire NNBD. The decision of the NNBD shall be final. In the event of an appeal to the NNBD:
Each voting member of the NNBD shall have one vote.
A simple majority shall be necessary, with a tie-breaking vote when necessary.
Usage
The Removal Policy may be enacted if a member can no longer meet the chapter membership expectations and has not met the requirements for Lifelong Membership.
Guidelines
The following guidelines apply to the procedure for the removal of a member:
The member and/or chapter must complete the NRHH Member Removal Application.
The form can be obtained from the region’s ADNRHH.
The form must include the electronic signatures of the chapter president and chapter advisor.
The form must be submitted electronically.
The completed Member Removal application shall be submitted to the region’s ADNRHH for approval.
The amount of members for removal is up to the discretion of the chapter.
It is the right of the region’s ADNRHH to deny requests for removal for reasons including, but not limited to:
Submission of an incomplete application form.
The region’s ADNRHH does not believe that sufficient measures have been taken by the chapter to address the member’s inactivity or ineligibility within the chapter prior to submission of the application.
If the member and/or chapter wish to appeal the decision, they may appeal to the Regional ADNRHH through written request as to why the Candidate deserves to continue as a member of NRHH.
Usage
An Early Lifelong member is an individual who, in their final term prior to graduation, is unable to maintain the requirements of active membership as set forth by the Chapter, respective Region, or the Honorary as a whole in either an on or off campus member capacity. Early Lifelong Members are afforded all rights and privileges granted to Lifelong Members.
Eligibility
Only individuals in their final academic term immediately prior to graduation or discontinuation of education at their institution and are otherwise eligible for Lifelong Membership are eligible to apply for Early Lifelong Membership Status.
Purpose
Early Lifelong Membership recognizes two distinct purposes. Individuals may hold significant obligations in their final term, which prohibit retaining their active membership and would otherwise be forced to resign their membership. And individuals maintain their lifelong commitment to the values of recognition and service.
Chapter Involvement
Early Lifelong Members are permitted to participate in chapter-specific and NACURH activities at the discretion of their chapter leadership and NACURH leadership respectively.
Application Process

The form can be obtained from the region’s ADNRHH.
The form must include the electronic signatures of the chapter President and chapter advisor.
The form must be submitted electronically.
It is the right of the region’s ADNRHH to deny requests for removal for reasons including, but not limited to:
Submission of an incomplete application form.
Insufficient explanation of the obligations that prohibit an individual from maintaining their active membership status.
If the member and/or chapter wish to appeal the decision of the region’s ADNRHH, they may appeal to the entire NNBD. The decision of the NNBD shall be final. In the event of an appeal to the NNBD:
Each voting member of the NNBD shall have one vote.
A simple majority shall be necessary, with a tie-breaking vote when necessary.
Usage
A member undertaking a leave of absence is an individual who, is not yet eligible to advance to Lifelong Membership, is unable to maintain the requirements of active membership as set forth by the Chapter, respective Region, or the Honorary as a whole in either an on or off campus member capacity. Individuals undertaking a Leave of Absence are resolved of any and all active membership requirements during their leave.
Eligibility
Only on or off campus members in good standing are eligible to receive a leave of absence.
Purpose
A leave of absence recognizes the potential for substantial obligations (including but not limited to internships and study abroad pursuits) that may prohibit an individual from maintaining their active membership status.
Chapter Involvement
During the course of their leave of absence, members are permitted to participate in chapter-specific and NACURH activities at the discretion of their chapter leadership and NACURH leadership respectively.
Length
A leave of absence shall consist of one (1) academic term as defined by a member’s institution.
Application Process
The following guidelines apply to the procedure for the leave of absence application:
The member and/or chapter must complete the NRHH Leave of Absence Application.
The form can be obtained from the region’s ADNRHH.
The form must include the electronic signatures of the chapter President and chapter advisor.
The form must be submitted electronically.
It is the right of the region’s ADNRHH to deny requests for removal for reasons including, but not limited to:
Submission of an incomplete application form.
Insufficient explanation of the obligations that prohibit an individual from maintaining their active membership status.
Insufficient explanation of the activities the member taking a leave of absence will pursue to continue to maintain a positive contribution to the residence hall community at their institution following their leave of absence.
If the member and/or chapter wish to appeal the decision of the region’s ADNRHH, they may appeal to the entire NNBD. The decision of the NNBD shall be final. In the event of an appeal to the NNBD:
Each voting member of the NNBD shall have one vote.
A simple majority shall be necessary, with a tie-breaking vote when necessary.
Usage
NRHH members who are transferring schools at any educational level, including incoming graduate students and incoming doctoral students, are able to apply to have their NRHH membership transferred from their outgoing institution to their incoming institution.
Process
Each NRHH chapter is able to accept/reject transfer members at their own discretion. If accepted, these members shall become members of the new chapter.
Guidelines
The Membership Transfer Policy must be outlined according to the following:
The student applying to transfer their membership must be fully matriculated at the new institution.
The student seeking to transfer their membership must contact the chapter president and advisor in writing detailing why they want to transfer their membership, how they supported their previous chapter and residence hall system, and how they hope to be involved in the new chapter.
Each chapter is able to come up with their own process detailing how letters will be evaluated.
If approved, the student and/or new chapter must complete the membership transfer application.
The membership transfer application may be obtained from the region’s ADNRHH.
The membership transfer application shall include signatures from the following individuals:
The incoming chapter’s president.
The incoming chapter’s advisor.
The NRHH member who is seeking to transfer their membership.
The completed application shall be submitted to the region’s ADNRHH for approval.
It is the right of the region’s ADNRHH to deny requests for reasons including, but not limited to:
The application form is incomplete.
If the member and/or chapter wish to appeal the decision of the region’s ADNRHH, they may appeal to the entire NNBD. The decision of the NNBD shall be final. In the event of an appeal to the NNBD:
Each voting member of the NNBD shall have one vote.
A simple majority shall be necessary, with a tie-breaking vote when necessary.
