What We Learn

Students must pass Health to graduate from Middle and High School!


Health is all about the student. Topics include real-life situations for adolescents and teens. Units last two to four weeks; then we are on to something new! Main topic areas are based on development, behaviors, and NYS Standards:


1. Self-Management: Practicing healthful personal habits.

2. Relationship Management: Behaving in ways that promote mutual or group benefit.

3. Stress Management: Recognizing and modifying stress reactions.

4. Communication Skills: Of both transmitting and receiving messages.

5. Planning and Goal Setting: Projecting needs and wants and establishing tasks.

6. Decision Making: Choosing in healthful ways based on actual wants and needs.

7. Advocacy: Acting assertively for one’s beliefs.


The course will also include, but not be limited to, the following topics:

Ø Mental Health Ø Human Reproduction/Contraception/Birth Control

Ø Disease Prevention Ø Substances and Alcohol Ø Relationships

Ø Keeping Healthy/Nutrition/Exercise Ø Stress Management Ø Human Development
