What is School Counseling?
The purpose of the school counseling program is to provide students with personal, social, educational, and career development. School counselors work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. As vital members of the school leadership team, school counselors create a school culture of success for all.
The elementary school counseling program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of a student's school experience. Research-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum focuses on knowledge, attitudes and skills students need to acquire in academic, career and social-emotional development, which serve as the foundation for future success.
At the secondary level, students and families benefit from counselor advocacy and collaboration with school staff. Counselors are an integral part of ensuring students' academic, personal, social, and emotional success. These are achieved through providing supports that are primarily individualized for each student.
