Since starting as a part-time lecturer at Stellenbosch University I have been lecturing Statistics across different levels and to different cohorts of students for more than 15 years. In 2012 I was appointed as Senior Officer and later as Lecturer in the Department of Statistics and Population Studies at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). In 2019 I became a Senior Lecturer in this department. I have lectured bridging courses (SciMathUS; Maths4Stats) and service courses (S186; BUS132). I have lectured across all three under-graduate levels ranging from a more theoretical/mathematical approach to Statistics (STA211; STA221) to a more applied approach (S318; S348). Recently my teaching is more focused on postgraduate courses, up to Masters level, in both the Statistical Science and Data Science streams. In this capacity I am currently the lecturer and coordinator of Contemporary issues in Business Analytics (STA842), the coordinator and lecturer of Introductory Multivariate Analysis (STA739) and the coordinator and co-lecturer of Multivariate Analysis (STA701).
Moving from facilitating to teaching a masters level customer relationship management course.
Redeveloping and authoring the Introductory Multivariate Analysis course readers as well as the Multivariate Analysis in R practical manuals.
Complementing traditional postgraduate assignments with mini practical projects with student solutions submitted as professional reports to facilitate student understanding of the analytics project solution approach and interpretation of findings in a professional business context.
Expanding the technology stack of my postgraduate students to include R Markdown for report generation. Also, showcasing how the R processor can be switched to Python or SAS within a Markdown script.

Concept mapping workshop (12 March 2014) which lead to the introduction of road maps to under-graduate and post-graduate teaching (↪ view).

This page takes you on my journey to becoming a Lecturer and later Senior Lecturer in the wonderful world of Statistics. The first stop on the journey is my teaching philosophy, that has been continuously evolving as I've been developing as a lecturer. A portfolio of the modules I've taught follows next, which will give some background on each module, my role in each module and how I've always strived for excellence in this part of my career. Over time I have been entrusted with developing and/or renewing the curricula of 6 courses. I continuously evaluate how I assess my students to ensure that my assessment activities remain relevant. Course evaluations are extremely important to me and I use the feedback from these evaluations to address my students' learning needs. The final stop on this journey is an illustration of how my teaching expertise is recognised by my external peers.
