Unit 1

  1. Annotating- adding notes or comments to a text to mark significant features and/or personal commentary

  2. Collaboration- the process of two or more people working together to create or achieve the same thing wherein each member speaks, is heard, and takes ownership of the resulting product or activity

  3. Context- the words, sentences, or passages that precede or follow a specific word, sentence, or passage

  4. Multisyllabic Words- A word with more than one syllable

  5. Topic- a specific subject, idea, or issue that is the focus of a discussion, essay, article, or other work

  6. Decoding- applying knowledge of letter-sound relationships in order to sound out a word; in reading practice, the term is used primarily to refer to word identification rather than word comprehension

  7. Fluency- the ability to read text at an appropriate rate and with accuracy, expression, and appropriate phrasing; not hurried reading
