Religion: The class took a test on Chapter 4 last week with excellent results.
We are dedicating the month of November to modern day saints. So far we have learned about Saints Maximilian Kolbe, Archbishop Oscar Romero, and Mother Theresa. We will soon consider the life of Mother Frances Cabrini. We have also learned about Dorothy Day, the great Catholic woman who dedicated her life to serving the poor in New York City.
Grammar: The class is in the midst of studying pronouns. Part 1 of the pronoun test was given on M
Monday, November 11th. Part 2 will be given after Thanksgiving.
Reading: The class has finished two of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories: The Tell-Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado. The students have been writing research biographies on Poe, as well as creative stories and poems. As we begin to read The Murders in the Rue Morgue there will be nightly assignments in Google Classroom.
Grade 6
The class just took Part 1 of their pronoun test. We are now working on a creative writing/vocabulary project I call, Sell a Word, in which students have to write an infomercial convincing buyers that they need a certain word. This has been a lot of fun! Along the way, the students have had to edit their work for capitalization, spelling, and sentence structure. They've also gotten to use their artistic skills to design graphic representations of their words.
Soon, we'll be reading a book by Linda Sue Park called A Long Walk to Water. There will be nightly homework in Google Classroom as we read.
Look for announcements about nightly homework in the appropriate section of Google Classroom!
