Welcome to the New Year, Everyone! The cold is here to remind us how good it feels to breathe brisk air and how wonderful it is to wait for snow drifts and trees sparkling in ice. That is, when we're all in a safe and sound situation.Winter brings its dangers, too...Let us all be safe and sound these next few months. And, lest we forget, the light is inching back! By the end of this month the days will be a little longer.

As the New Year begins we all look forward to fresh beginnings. Here at St. Theresa's the annual cycle of celebrations and holidays joins the everyday routine of work, study, and play. Soon we will mark the birthday if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Along with Presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, Dr. King epitomized what it means to be American. These men stood up and stood out despite danger to themselves. It's important that we pause and remember that as we take time off to enjoy winter things.

In all our classes we will be paying attention to the themes of equality and promise. Our faith permeates everything we think and do, so in religion class, literature class, and even grammar class we'll be stressing humanity's need to communicate through the love of neighbor and self.

My hope for my students in this second half of the school year is that each of them grows in knowledge, wisdom, and kindness. In June, when the class walks down the aisle on Graduation Night, I hope that each will feel the satisfaction that comes after a hard job is completed. I hope they will be looking forward with the confidence that the coming months will seed.

Take good care! Bless you all!
