SUPPORT FOR PRIORITY GROUPS

CARE EXPERIENCED STUDENTS

We're here to help you achieve your potential!

At City of Glasgow College, we're committed to supporting students who are care experienced. We work closely with you and the people who support you to offer impartial advice and guidance to enable you to attend a college course and achieve your goals.

Our Student Advisors can offer advice and guidance on how to link in with various support services, including counselling and learning support, and will help you get the best out of your time at City. We've outlined all the support available in our Guide for Care Experienced Students.

We also have named contacts so you know who to contact for help - but don't forget to tell us you're care experienced on your application so we can make contact with you and you can receive our Care Experienced Newsletter.

NAMED CONTACTS

WE ARE A CORPORATE PARENT

In 2014 City of Glasgow College became a Corporate Parent, this means we have a legal responsibility to support our Care Experienced students. We have created a Corporate Parenting Plan (CPP) to ensure that we continue to develop ourselves as a Corporate Parent and to ensure we uphold our legislative duties. The CPP is a working document and is reviewed and updated annually to ensure you can keep up-to-date with our progress. You can view the CPP on the College website.

If you haven’t told us that you’re care experienced, that’s okay. You can update your record in your profile area on CityLife.

STUDENT CARERS

Do you provide unpaid caring responsibilities for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems? At City of Glasgow College, we're committed to supporting students who have caring responsibilities to help you achieve your potential.

Many students combine their college studies with caring. The college is aware that student carers can face additional challenges balancing their caring responsibilities with the demands of their course. There are lots of things to think about when deciding to come to college. Our Student Advisors can help you to decide on your course, plan a visit, make an application and help you to sort out your funding. They'll also provide access to support services, including counselling and learning support, and help you get the best out of your time at City. We have more information on the support available on our website.

To help us deliver personalised support to our student carers we have created an action plan and a Student Carers Support Procedure.
