MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Starting college can be an exciting time. Meeting new people, learning new skills and working towards a positive future for yourself is incredibly rewarding. It can come with its challenges too. While have every belief in your ability to overcome the challenges in front of you, we are here if it feels like too much.

If you are experiencing distress beyond what feels manageable, you can book a Wellbeing Assessment. This is a telephone appointment of 30-45 minutes where one of our College Counsellors will listen and work with you to find the best available support. To access a Wellbeing Assessment log-in to CityLife

There is information on the college's website that can be of help too; Crisis Services, Self Help Resources, Mental Health and Wellbeing A-Z.

1:1 SHORT TERM COUNSELLING

The Student Counselling Service offers confidential short-term counselling. Sessions are normally weekly on the same day and time - either in-person or remotely.

Your Counsellor will offer you a safe and supportive space to share your thoughts and feelings, reflect on your situation and explore the choices you face. People have found talking therapy helpful for coping with College-related stress, low mood, anxiety, bereavement and relationship concerns.

EXTERNAL REFERRAL

Our aim always is to help you find the best available support. If this extends beyond what is offered at College we will support you to access additional or alternative help.

YOGA

Yoga classes will run throughout the year. All you need is a yoga mat, the right clothing, and an open mind.

Check out our Mental Health and Wellbeing Support hub on our website. Where you will find links self-help guides and wellbeing apps.

While studying at college it is important to take action to keep on top of your mental health and wellbeing. As well as allowing you to achieve your academic goals, this will help make your time here more enjoyable.

Here is a short preview of what you can expect in the classes.

HARASSMENT & GENDER BASED VIOLENCE SUPPORT

We are dedicated to ensuring our campuses are a safe space for our diverse community. We take reports of inappropriate behaviour very seriously and we encourage our students to speak out and report any instances of unwanted behaviour. Watch our short video on #CallItRacism.

Our online Report and Support tool provides a straightforward way to report any inappropriate behaviour; whether it is gender-based violence, harassment or any other form of discrimination. You can report anonymously or provide your name and contact details to receive the support you require.

The tool also provides a wide range of information and FAQs on the support available.

The site is not an emergency site, and is not staffed over the weekend. If your situation is urgent call Police Scotland on 999.

We also have a Rape Crisis support worker who is on campus every Wednesday for drop-in sessions between 12pm-2pm in room C.02.105. You can also be referred via a staff member to link in with Rape Crisis support,  please contact reportandsupport@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk
