IT EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE

EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE

Your lecturers will let you know if there are any specific IT requirements for your course. For most students, it is beneficial to have access to your own laptop or tablet that you can use to access any online classes, meetings or workshops; however, it's not essential because the college has IT equipment on campus that you can use outside of class time.

Students should be aware that classes, guidance and support can be delivered by webinar. The platforms are secure and students can use appropriate filters or backgrounds. There are guides for staff and student's on the use of Teams on the Learning and Teaching Academy website. These are official College media and covered by the normal College code of conduct.

MICROSOFT 365

Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) has a set of hosted collaboration services, communication tools, and mobile, desktop, and web-based applications, as well as data storage capabilities.
When logged into your CityLife, click the 9 dots grid icon ('the biscuit') in the top left corner to open the App Launcher. This will give you access to Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc and you will be able to access your OneDrive account, where you can store and access all your documents on the cloud anytime anywhere.
You can store any type of file in your OneDrive including images, spreadsheets, presentations and more. Storing your files in OneDrive will allow you to share and collaborate with your class mates and lecturer.

LAPTOP LOANS

Students without their own device can borrow a laptop from the College. This is available on either a day or two-day basis.

Two-day borrowing

In 2024 CitySA, in partnership with Library Services, launched a new laptop borrowing service available from the 2nd floor Students' Association at City Campus.  There are a number of laptops available to borrow from the new self-service cabinets. The service allows you to take a laptop home over a 2-day period during the academic year.  Although the service is based at City campus it is open and available to students at both campuses.

Short-loan borrowing - Library only

This is a daily laptop loan service available at both campus libraries. There are a number of laptops which are available for students to borrow during the day for use in the libraries only.

To use these services, you will need you student card to borrow and cannot have any overdue resources with the Library.
