College life isn’t just about coursework and studying. It's also an opportunity to meet new people, find new hobbies, develop confidence, and gain new skills and experiences beyond the classroom. There are many opportunities within the Students’ Association to try something new, set up your own society and lead the change within the college as a Class Rep!

Every student is automatically a member of the Students’ Association at City of Glasgow College, but how much you get involved and engage with its services is up to you. Check out some of the options detailed below to find out more.

Follow us on our socials to stay up to date with the latest from the Students' Association.

JOIN A SOCIETY OR START A NEW ONE!

Whether you’re into gaming, drama, leading a team of adventurers or want to set up your own social club, getting involved in societies can boost your wellbeing by helping you meet like-minded people with similar interests. At the Students’ Association your ideas are welcomed and can be transformed from an informal chat into a weekly meeting hub. Some funding opportunities are also available if you’d like to grow your society and need some equipment or require booking a space fit for your society’s needs.

Societies are a great platform to get your voice heard across the college. Societies such as the LGBTQ+ Society and the Disabled Students' Network have utilised their societies to discuss wider equality and diversity issues and create a forum for students to share their opinions. You can find out more on City SA's societies page.

TAKE PART IN SPORT

There’s plenty of sports on offer, whether you want to play competitively or just for fun. The Students’ Association host recreational sports clubs, including badminton, basketball and volleyball. More details about competitive sport can be found here and here.

BECOME A CLASS REP

Class Reps are a crucial part of how the Students’ Association make positive changes within the college. Every full time course in the college will elect two students at the start of term and the good news is, anyone can nominate themselves. The class will vote for the best candidates and they become Class Reps for the rest of the academic year. Watch our video about Class Reps to find out more.

There are lots of benefits of becoming a Class Rep:

STAND IN THE STUDENT ELECTIONS

Every year the Students’ Association hold elections to recruit a new Student President, three Vice Presidents’ and a team of volunteers to represent student views and improve the student experience. The Student President is a full-time paid position and the Vice President roles are part-time paid positions. Five volunteers make up the rest of the Student Executive Committee.

Elections for paid positions usually take place in March. For more information on the positions available and how you can get involved you can contact CitySA:

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, meet new people and gain valuable work experience. There are lots of opportunities available through our Volunteering HUB.

EVENTS AND CAMPAIGNS

The Students’ Association represents students’ interests both within the College and the wider community. We campaign on relevant local, national and international issues.

A great way to get involved with CitySA is to help us with the campaigns and events we run. We get involved in a number of national campaigns throughout the academic year, including Black History Month, LGBTQIA+ History Month and Poverty Awareness Month. Check out our latest campaigns here.

We run a busy events calendar throughout the year. Discover what events we are running here.
