Welcome to my class where we ride the Reading Wave! This is now my sixth year as a departmentalized third grade ELA/Reading Teacher here at CODE, my seventh year in third grade, and now starting my eighth wonderful year with the CODE family! Along with teaching third grade, I have spent one year as a Reading Interventionist for CODE, and have also taught sixth, second, and fourth grades during my teaching career with past school families! Third grade is definitely my favorite grade level, and especially focusing on their ability to READ!

I grew up right here in Lakeland, and even attended a local school myself as a child. I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1995 from Lakeland's own Southeastern University! I am proud to say that with both of my daughter's now attending SEU, I am the second of three generations to attend! GO FIRE!!! I taught for a bit after graduating, and then decided with my husband to be a stay-at-home mom during my two daughter's (Hannah and Gracie) younger years. I loved that time with them, but felt the calling to come back to full-time teaching when they got a little older. I would also like to share that I'm a third generation teacher! My great grandmother, and my mother were teachers as well! My mother taught right here in Polk County for thirty-four years! And I'm so excited to share that my youngest daughter is now studying to be a teacher herself! Four generations of teachers!!! My husband Chris Hallock also teaches here in Polk County at Traviss Technical College's Lakeland Electric Academy!

I am passionate about teaching children to read. I, along with my team, work very hard to help our students be successful. It is my goal that all of my students glean my passion for reading, and find success from their perseverance to become Surftastically Amazing Readers!

A Look Back...

Look what fun we had last year! There are great adventures in store for you in Mrs. Hallock's Class!

Look at some of the great books we're reading this year...

...and many more!

Are you ready to dive in?

Truly the greatest way to help your child grow as a reader is to not only listen to them read, but also read with them and to them! Your child will never get too old for a wonderful read aloud cuddled up with you in a big chair, or outside under a tree! Research shows it will grow their vocabulary and build background knowledge for them to be able to mature as a reader! So when you read together you're not only getting in some amazing quality time, you're also growing an amazing reader! So don't forget to take time every day and READ TOGETHER!

This is a great video from GoNoodle and the Blazer Fresh Group on how to read with expression! We enjoy this so much in class! Check it out here!
