An important part of scientific or engineering research is presenting to peers and specialists in their fields of research. This happens during judging day where students not only present and defend their research, they also network with those specialists and peers.
Our judges expertise and knowledge in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research is an invaluable part of the process and success of the PRSEF. Thank you for your interest as a judge!
The primary responsibilities of a PRSEF judge include the following:
Encourage students in their individual pursuits of science;
Provide positive and constructive feedback to students regarding the soundness and validity of their research;
Provide mentoring to students from professionals working in their fields;
Recognize exceptional student work; and,
Select projects for further competition at State and International levels.
The PRSEF promotes rigorous and relevant research in STEM for all Polk County students between 6-12 grade. Through the PRSEF, finalists from school fair present their independent research projects in all science disciplines, from animal science to engineering projects. Students are judged on their creativity, problem solving, scientific thought, originality, observation skills, and defense of their research through interviews with science fair judges. The critical thinking skills required to conduct authentic research and interact with experts in science research can have a profound impact on students’ academic pursuits and successes in scientific research.
