The Polk Regional and Engineering Fair began by a group of parents in 1985 to provide students the opportunity to participate in a competition that would showcase their independent research projects. After a few years Polk County schools expanded their efforts operating the fair and continues to do so until this day to support all students in their scientific and engineering endeavors.
PRSEF is the Polk County Regional Science and Engineering Fair, an academic competition that showcases finalist scientific and engineering projects.
Kim Rex,
Polk Regional Science And Engineering Fair Director
My journey with science fair began in 1995 when I went to Jewett Academy as a teacher. During the interview one of the questions was if I was willing to have all my students participate in science fair. Of course my answer was yes and thus it began! Within a year I was helping to rewrite the student manual for science fair there and helping to run the school fair, thus my entrance in to Regional Fair. In 2006 I became co-director of PRSEF and full director in 2008. With the exception of 2 years, I have been director of PRSEFF since then. In 2008 I was made co-chair of Display and Safety for state and by 2010 was chairperson. In 2012 I became involved with the D & S of ISEF and became a committee member. In 2019 I became a member of the executive committee for Display and Safety for ISEF.
Marjorie Miles Dozier, MD.
Polk Regional Science And Engineering Fair Co- Director
My journey with science fair began in 1992 when I first participated in middle school science fair with a research into cuttings, from then on I became a science fair enthusiast. Fast forward two years, 1994 and I was presenting my research on educating middle school students on Caribbean Sea cetaceans with a book my partners and I created and taught with the aim of protecting dolphins and whales in the Caribbean Sea.
During My teaching career I led school fairs from elementary to high school, mentored, judged and volunteer as translator to help finalist showcase their work from local schools to international. It is a pleasure to be co-directing the Polk Regional Science Fair along with Kim, giving many Polk Students opportunities in scientific and engineering academic competition.
