team history

In 2015, our former coaches Mrs. and Mr. McCarthy created a FTC team named Ravenclaw Robotics. The couple wanted to create a robotics team to engage students in STEM. That marks the start of our team, and we're now entering our sixth season in FTC. Our robotics club at Rice Middle School has since created another robotics group, our sister team, Ravenstorm.

The Ultimate Goal Season (2020-2021)

Last year, Ravenclaw Robotics was an all-girls team primarily coached by Mrs. McCarthy and co-coached by Mr. McCarthy. The majority of their team members were rookies that of being their first year in FTC. However, through hard work and persistence, they were able to succeed in unprecedented ways Rice has never once witnessed before. Their team was able to advance to the Texas Cup, being the only public school team to do so. Throughout their journey, they were mentored and sponsored by numerous companies such as Apple, Google, and Boeing, gave FIRST lectures to numerous schools, and participated in a "supply chain like" system where they collaborated with other teams to distribute face masks to front-line workers. Moreover, their team strived to push for gender equality in STEM by encouraging girls to participate in STEM/robotics-related programs. They proved that FIRST is #morethanjustrobots.
