Dear Families,
Welcome to a wonderful new month of learning! September is a time for building classroom routines, getting to know one another, and developing important foundational skills. This month, students will be learning through hands-on activities, stories, games, songs, and classroom discussions.
Here is a look at what we will be learning in each subject:
🔢 Mathematics
This month, we will continue building our number sense and mathematical thinking.
Math Book 1A: Unit Numbers to 10, which includes,
Chapter 1: Numbers 1–10
Chapter 2: Comparing Numbers
Students will practice recognizing, counting, writing, and representing numbers.
Students will compare numbers and quantities using concepts such as more, fewer, and the same.
We will use manipulatives, pictures, number games, and everyday classroom activities to reinforce these skills.
🔤 Phonics
Our phonics lessons will focus on developing early sound and letter recognition skills.
Review of letters and their sounds
Review of consonants
Identifying beginning and ending sounds
Listening for sounds in familiar words
Matching letters to their corresponding sounds
Practicing correct letter recognition and pronunciation
📚 Reading
We will work on building early reading skills and recognizing frequently used words.
Sight Words
Students will practice reading and recognizing:
I • WE • IT • IS • YOU • ARE
We will practice these words through books, flashcards, sentence activities, classroom games, and shared reading.
Students will also practice using sight words in simple sentences.
✏️ Spelling
Our spelling activities will focus on developing confidence with short words.
Students will practice:
Two-letter words
Three-letter words
Hearing and identifying sounds in words
Connecting sounds to letters
Building words with letter cards
Writing and spelling simple words independently
📝 Journal Writing
Every week, students will practice writing a simple sentence in their journals. This activity will help develop:
Writing skills
Sentence formation
Correct use of letters and words
Fine-motor skills
Neat and legible handwriting
Confidence in expressing ideas through writing
Students will be encouraged to focus on proper letter formation, spacing between words, and neat handwriting.
🔬 Science
Living and Non-Living Things
Students will explore the difference between living and non-living things.
We will discuss characteristics of living things and identify examples in our classroom and environment.
Students will learn to sort and classify objects as:
Living
Non-living
We will use pictures, classroom objects, nature observations, and hands-on activities to explore this concept.
🌎 Social Studies
Rules and Responsibilities
Students will learn why rules are important at school, at home, and in our community.
We will discuss:
Following classroom rules
Taking care of classroom materials
Listening to teachers and classmates
Sharing and taking turns
Being respectful and kind
Understanding our responsibilities
Making safe and responsible choices
Students will learn that rules help keep our classroom safe, respectful, and welcoming for everyone.

Healthy Habits & Personal Hygiene
This month, we will learn about healthy habits and taking care of our bodies.
Topics will include:
Washing hands properly
Brushing our teeth
Keeping our bodies clean
Bathing regularly
Wearing clean clothes
Covering our coughs and sneezes
Eating healthy foods
Drinking water
Getting enough sleep
Being physically active
Keeping personal items clean and organized
We will emphasize that good personal hygiene is an important part of staying healthy and caring for ourselves and others.
🏡 How Families Can Help at Home
Families can support learning by:
Practicing counting and numbers 1–10.
Asking your child to compare two groups of objects: Which has more? Which has fewer?
Reviewing letter sounds and consonants.
Practicing the sight words I, WE, IT, IS, YOU, ARE.
Reading together every day.
Practicing simple two- and three-letter words.
Looking around the house or outside and identifying living and non-living things.
Talking about family rules and responsibilities.
Encouraging healthy habits and good personal hygiene.
