WEEK #2 Sep 7th , 2026

Alhamdulillah, we have successfully completed our first week of Grade 1 with great enthusiasm and joy! It has been a delightful start to our journey, watching your children adapt and engage with their new learning environment. Each day has been filled with laughter, learning, and the spirit of discovery.


To clarify school year’s routine, please read these points carefully,

1. Arrival and Dismissal
 Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time each morning, no later than 8:45 AM. The first few minutes of the day are very important, as this is when the daily activities are explained. Students arriving late will miss this crucial start.
 Dismissal time is 3:00 - 3:30 PM. After 3:30, students will be taken to the gym. Please note that parents will be charged for late pick-ups after 3:30 PM.


2. School Uniform
 All students are required to wear the school uniform as announced on the Ottawa Islamic School website.


3. Books and Supplies
 Please request the Grade One books and send your child’s supplies as soon as possible. Kindly label all books and supplies clearly with your child’s name.


4. Weekly Lesson Plan
 Every Monday, you will receive (with your child) a letter or lesson plan outlining homework, quizzes, and test schedules for the week. Some tasks are to be completed at home as homework, while others are classroom assessments that require practice at home. For your convenience, the same lesson plan will also be posted on the school website by Sunday morning.


5. Homework and the Friday Folder (BLUE FOLDER)
 Students are expected to complete their homework daily as outlined in the weekly lesson plan. However, all homework should be handed only on Fridays in the Friday Folder.

I will collect the Friday Folders every Friday for correction and return them later that same day after review. 


6. Weekly Spelling Test
 Every Friday, students will have a spelling test on the words listed in the weekly lesson plan. The results will be written on the printed weekly plan sheets each week. 


7. School Books and Materials

To avoid carrying unnecessary heavy books to and from school, please follow the guidelines below:


9. Friday Bake Sale
 Every Friday, the school holds a bake sale. If your child wishes to participate, please send money in a sealed zip-lock bag along with a short note indicating your child’s name and what he/she would like to purchase.


10. Indoor and Outdoor Footwear
 Please provide your child with indoor shoes and outdoor boots that are easy to wear and fasten independently.


11. Health Information (Important)
 If your child has any health concerns, it is essential to inform the school office and all teachers (both homeroom and subject teachers). Please provide details regarding the condition, necessary medication, and procedures to follow. In addition, kindly complete the health form with accurate information about your child’s medical needs. It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure this information is shared so the school can respond appropriately in case of an emergency.


12. Winter Clothing
 Please make sure your child is dressed in appropriate and comfortable winter clothing each day.

📢 Important Announcement: Attendance, Punctuality, Drop-Off, Pick-Up, and Student Safety Procedures

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I hope this message finds you and your families in the best of health and iman.

At Ottawa Islamic School, we are committed to providing a nurturing, safe, and productive learning environment for all our students. As part of this commitment, we would like to remind families of the importance of regular attendance, punctuality, and timely drop-off and pick-up, as well as keeping the school informed of any information that may affect your child's health and safety.

🕘 School Hours & Attendance

Our regular school hours are 8:45 AM to 3:00 PM. It is important for students to be present throughout the school day so they can benefit fully from classroom instruction and activities.

Regular attendance and punctuality not only support students' academic success but also help develop discipline, responsibility, and good habits, which are important values in Islam.

If your child is unable to attend school, we kindly ask that you inform the school administration as soon as possible. This helps us maintain accurate attendance records and provide the necessary support for your child.

🌅 Morning Drop-Off & Athkar

Students who are dropped off at 8:45 AM should proceed directly to the gym upon arrival. All students will gather in the gym to participate in the morning Athkar together.

After the morning Athkar, the Grade 1 teacher will guide the students to their classroom to begin their school day.

We kindly ask parents and guardians to ensure that students arrive on time and proceed directly to the gym so they can participate in the morning routine with their classmates.

🏫 Grade 1 Dismissal & Pick-Up Procedure

To ensure a safe, smooth, and organized dismissal process, please note the following:

3:00–3:30 PM
Grade 1 students who are waiting to be picked up will remain in their classroom. During this time, students may read stories, colour, or play quiet games while they wait.

3:30 PM
Any Grade 1 students who have not yet been picked up will be taken to the gym. The teacher will write down the names of the students who have not been picked up and provide the list to the school office.

A late pick-up fee will be applied for students who remain at school after 3:30 PM, in accordance with the school's late pick-up policy.

⏰ Important Reminders

1. Timely Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Please make every effort to drop off students on time at 8:45 AM and pick them up on time at 3:00 PM.

2. Authorized Pick-Up
For the safety and security of all students, if someone other than the parent/guardian will be picking up your child, the school office must have a signed authorization from the parent/guardian on file. Please ensure that any family member or other authorized person who may pick up your child has been officially added to the school's authorized pick-up list in advance.

3. Health Conditions & Allergies
If your child has any health condition, allergy, medical concern, or other health-related need, please make sure that the school office and the Grade 1 homeroom teacher and subjects teachers are informed.

For the safety of your child, please do not assume that information provided to one staff member has been communicated to everyone who needs to know. Please ensure that both the school office and the classroom teacher have the most up-to-date information.
