📌 Notices to Parents for the Entire School Year:
Student Folders
To help organize your child’s learning materials and to keep you updated on classroom progress, students will use three specific folders throughout the school year. Please read the following guidelines carefully:
1. Friday Folder (Homework Folder)
This folder is for all assigned homework of the week.
Students should hand this folder only on Fridays, so that homework can be checked and returned.
Example for this week:
Math Homework: Complete the assigned pages (1& 2) in the My Math Path Workbook.
Journal Homework: Write a sentence starting with “I like …” in the journal notebook and then repeat it four times.
Both items (Math workbook and journal notebook) should be placed in the Friday Folder and handed in this Friday.
👉 While homework is handed on Fridays, students are encouraged to complete their assignments gradually throughout the week (as outlined in the Homework Table), rather than leaving everything until the last minute.
2. Worksheets Folder
This folder will hold all worksheets completed in class each day.
Students will take this folder home daily so that parents can:
Review what has been taught in class.
Help their child complete any unfinished worksheets.
Monitor their child’s learning progress.
Parents are kindly asked to remove all worksheets daily and return the folder empty, so it is ready for new worksheets the next day.
3. Test Folder
This folder will contain all test papers and class assessments.
It is designed to inform parents about their child’s performance and progress.
Example for this week: No tests were conducted, so the Test Folder will remain empty.
Note:
The spelling test notebooks will remain in the classroom to ensure they are always available for use. Students will take them home at the end of the year.
Test results will also be shared separately with parents in a hard copy letter every Monday, so you can track your child’s performance.
Student Notebooks:
1- Journal Notebook for journal homework: Your child must write a sentence {for this week a sentence that begins with “I like …” (e.g., “I like cats”)} and repeat it four times. Journals should be written on the lined section of the journal notebook, with a matching drawing on the blank section (e.g., a drawing of a cat).
Writing instructions: Begin with a capital letter, leave spaces between words, and end with a period.
2- Spelling Notebook for spelling test: Please make sure your child practices all words (1–10). The spelling test will be conducted in the spelling test notebook on Fridays.
Your cooperation in maintaining these folders will help ensure smooth communication between home and school, while also supporting your child’s organization and learning success.
WEEK #2 Sep 8th , 2025
Alhamdulillah, we have successfully completed our first week of Grade 1 with great enthusiasm and joy! It has been a delightful start to our journey, watching your children adapt and engage with their new learning environment. Each day has been filled with laughter, learning, and the spirit of discovery.
We are grateful for your support and collaboration, and we pray for a successful and fulfilling year ahead for all our students. May Allah (SWT) bless our efforts and guide us on this educational journey. To clarify school year’s routine, please read these points carefully,
1. Arrival and Dismissal
Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time each morning, no later than 8:45 AM. The first few minutes of the day are very important, as this is when the daily activities are explained. Students arriving late will miss this crucial start.
Dismissal time is 3:00 PM. After that, students will be taken to the gym. Please note that parents will be charged for late pick-ups after 3:30 PM.
2. School Uniform
All students are required to wear the school uniform as announced on the Ottawa Islamic School website.
3. Books and Supplies
Please request the Grade One books and send your child’s supplies as soon as possible. Kindly label all books and supplies clearly with your child’s name.
4. Weekly Lesson Plan
Every Monday, you will receive (with your child) a letter or lesson plan outlining homework, quizzes, and test schedules for the week. Some tasks are to be completed at home as homework, while others are classroom assessments that require practice at home. For your convenience, the same lesson plan will also be posted on the school website by Sunday morning.
5. Homework and the Friday Folder
Students are expected to complete their homework daily as outlined in the weekly lesson plan. However, all homework should be handed only on Fridays in the Friday Folder.
If the homework is completed in a book, please place the book in the Friday Folder.
If the homework consists of worksheets, simply place them inside the same folder.
I will collect the Friday Folders each Friday for correction and return them after review.
6. Weekly Spelling Test
Every Friday, students will have a spelling test on the words listed in the weekly lesson plan.
7. Word Practice (Short and Long Vowels)
Students will be given a list of words with both short and long vowel sounds. This list will also be written on the classroom board. Students will practice reading these words daily in class and should also read them at home with their parents. A new list of words will be introduced each week.
To support easy reading, I recommend writing these words on flashcards and practicing them at home by having your child guess and read the words.
8. School Books and Materials
Please ensure your child’s backpack is packed only with their scheduled books during class time according to the daily timetable. There is no need to send books that are not required on that day. It is important that students bring the correct books, as lessons are based on them.
For Mathematics (My Math Path), there are four textbooks (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D) used in class, and one workbook to be kept at home for homework. We will begin with Book 1A. Kindly send only 1A with your child until you are informed to bring the next book. The workbook should remain at home for assignments and be sent only on Fridays in the Friday Folder for correction.
Additionally, the Phonics book must be brought to school on the days when phonics classes are scheduled.
9. Friday Bake Sale
Every Friday, the school holds a bake sale. If your child wishes to participate, please send money in a sealed zip-lock bag along with a short note indicating your child’s name and what he/she would like to purchase.
10. Indoor and Outdoor Footwear
Please provide your child with indoor shoes and outdoor boots that are easy to wear and fasten independently.
11. Health Information (Important)
If your child has any health concerns, it is essential to inform the school office and all teachers (both homeroom and subject teachers). Please provide details regarding the condition, necessary medication, and procedures to follow. In addition, kindly complete the health form with accurate information about your child’s medical needs. It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure this information is shared so the school can respond appropriately in case of an emergency.
12. Winter Clothing
Please make sure your child is dressed in appropriate and comfortable winter clothing each day.
Thank you very much for your continued cooperation and support. Your involvement plays a vital role in your child’s success, and I truly appreciate the effort you put into working alongside the school.
If you have any questions, concerns, or need further clarification at any time, please do not hesitate to reach out. Open communication and mutual understanding are key to creating a positive and productive learning experience for your child.
WEEK#1 Sep 2nd , 2025
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
I hope this message finds you in the best of health and iman. At Ottawa Islamic School, we are committed to providing a nurturing and productive learning environment for all our students. As part of this commitment, we would like to emphasize the importance of regular attendance and punctuality.
Our school hours are from 8:45 AM to 3:00 PM. It is crucial for students to be present during these hours to ensure they do not miss out on valuable learning opportunities. Regular attendance not only supports academic success but also helps in the development of discipline and responsibility, which are important values in Islam.
We would like to inform you about the pick-up procedure for your child.
From 3:00 PM, grade one students will be available for pick-up from the gym. This arrangement is made to ensure the safety and orderly dismissal of all students.
Please note that if a child is not picked up by 3:30 PM, a late pick-up charge will be applied. This policy is in place to ensure that staff can effectively manage their time and responsibilities.
We understand that there may be occasional circumstances that prevent a student from attending school. In such cases, we kindly request that you inform the school administration as soon as possible. This will help us keep accurate records and provide any necessary support to your child.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's attendance, the pick-up procedure, or the late pick-up policy. We are here to work together with you to ensure the best possible educational experience for your child.
