Goal:
Students will compile a body of poems in order to demonstrate the long-term impacts of historical circumstances on individual and collective identities. They will also explain how each poem demonstrates those impacts, effects identities, and connects to at least two themes within the novel.
Rationale:
The compilation of poetry will allow students to apply analysis and critical thinking after developing said skills with Long Way Down. Students will be able to answer the essential question and understanding with this assessment.
Standards/Criteria for Success:
Students must have the following components in their final product:
At least three poems from different authors and two poems of the student’s creation
One to two pages that analyze the impact specific historical circumstances have on identities in relation to students’ collections
Supported by at least two informational articles and two quotations
One page that explains the connections between Long Way Down and students’ collections
Supported by at least three pieces of textual evidence
Centered around at least two central ideas/themes within the text
