Read books to your child each day.
Talk about the story and pictures as you read. Discuss the characters and their feelings, make predictions, and retell the story.
Make letters and words out of Play-doh, yarn, pipe cleaners, etc.
Play games with letters and the sounds they make. ( I'm thinking of a letter that makes the sound mmmmmm. I'm thinking of a lowercase letter in the shape of a circle. Let's go on a letter hunt and see how many e's we can find. Find words with 2 letters, 3 letters, 5 letters, etc.)
Rhyme with your child. Tell your child two words and have them decide if they rhyme.
Read Nursery Rhymes to your child. This is excellent!
Count the number of words in a sentence.
Point out the Author and Illustrator in books you are reading.
If reading nonfiction discuss something new you learned.
Stop to enjoy the illustrations and photos in the book.
