The Hazel Park "Viking" Marching Band is proud to have an experienced staff to assist our students during the marching band season. We operate on the basis of kindness and servant leadership to best serve our students. Read below to learn more about our staff!
Kevin Lin
Assistant Marching Band Director
Kevin Lin brings a wealth of experience in the marching arts to the table, and is excited to be returning for his second year with the VMB! He served for six years as the Head Drum Major of the 2-time champion Rogues Hollow Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and was often responsible for running the ensemble's rehearsals in that role. Previously, he marched with the Columbus Saints, Ohio State University Marching Band, and Ohio University Marching 110.
Kevin is also active as a performer in the Southeast Michigan music community, having performed with premier ensembles such as the Detroit Community Orchestra and Concert Band. During the day, he works as an engineer for Ford Motor Company.
Charles Hayes
Visual Technician
Charles Hayes serves as the band's visual technician, and is a proud alumnus of Hazel Park High School and its band program! During his time at HPHS, Charles performed on saxophone and intends to continue studying music at the collegiate level. He is very excited to have the chance to work with our students and to give back to the program he grew up in!
Rachel Coy
Woodwind Technician
Rachel Coy serves as the band's woodwind technician and is excited to be returning for her second year with the VMB! She has substantial teaching experience in the marching arts, having taught woodwinds for several programs in Southeast Michigan. She majored in music at Grand Valley State University and currently works as an elementary music teacher. Outside of teaching, she remains active as a performer, playing flute in local community bands.
Kailey Marker
Brass Technician
Kailey MacDonald serves as the band's brass technician and is in her third year with the VMB. She attended Eastern Michigan University for Psychology, but was an active performer for the EMU Marching Band and other ensembles. Kailey is excited to be returning to work with our students and looks forward to a great season!
Dominic Wilson
Battery Technician
Dominic Wilson is the band's battery technician, and is a proud alumnus of Hazel Park High School and its band program! After graduating from HPHS, he went on to march in the competitive indoor drumline circuit, and currently performs with the Pistons drumline. After working as a consultant for the HPVMB in 2023, he joined the band's staff on a full-time basis in 2024. He is excited to be back to work with our drumline students and looks forward to a great season!
Maddie Parks
Color Guard Technician
Maddie Parks serves as the band's color guard technician and is in her fourth year with the VMB. She marched in the Ferndale Marching Band from 2011-2015, winning the MCBA Flight IV state championship in her final season with the band. After graduating, she attended Wayne State University for Electrical Engineering and currently works in the robotics field. Maddie is excited to be back and to continue seeing the growth of our color guard!
