The 2025 HPVMB at State Finals, held at Ford Field!
The Hazel Park "Viking" Marching Band has a rich history of competition and excellence. The group performs in parades, football game halftime shows, and marching band competitions each year both locally and across the state. Being a member of the marching band is a rewarding experience and students can expect to create positive lifelong memories!
The band has competed in the Michigan Competing Band Association for many years, and is an eight-time MCBA state finalist, including a string of 5 consecutive appearances at Ford Field from 2018-2023. Several alumni of the band have gone on to perform with premier ensembles on the Drum Corps International circuit.
Membership in the musical ensemble is open to any student in grades 8-12 with previous experience in a band class, with the band using most of the instruments seen in those classes. Students may also join the color guard, which involves spinning and tossing flags and other props, as well as dance. This option is the easiest entry point for students who do not play an instrument, but wish to be a part of the band.
Students who complete one season of marching band in good standing as a high schooler (met attendance requirements and passed with a C+ or better) will waive the 0.5 credit requirement for Physical Education.
Students completing two seasons in good standing as a high schooler will receive a varsity letter for band and a cord for graduation.
