Our Schroeder Instructional Model was developed and revised by our staff. It is posted in our classrooms for students, staff, and visitors to see.
iObservation is an instructional and leadership improvement system. It collects, manages and reports data from classroom walkthroughs, teacher evaluations and teacher observations.
Schroeder Instructional Rounds
Schroeder teachers will continue to participate in monthly Instructional Rounds. One Wonderment Wednesday each month, teachers will commit 30 minutes of their team/prep time to observe other classrooms. We will meet in the Raider Room the last 15 minutes of the period to debrief. On those Wednesdays, teachers should inform their students at the beginning of class that teachers may be visiting during class. The goal is to learn from one another.
Purpose- To aid instructional growth of teachers by comparing their own instructional practices with those of the teachers observed. To provide regular opportunities for job-embedded professional development.
Key Elements:
Opportunity to gather ideas.
Non-evaluative
Groups are unobtrusive observers in the classrooms visited.
Notes taken focus on specific actions observed, not judgements of practice or general ideas and information .
Debriefs are discussions of practice, not evaluations of the observed teachers’ practice .
Debriefs will be done during the final 10 minutes of team/prep time in the Raider Room
For Falcons, Debriefs may have to be done the following week.
We will meet and debrief in the Raider Room.
Feedback is not provided to individual teachers unless specifically requested.
Visits should have a max time of 15-20 minutes.
If you have an assessment on an Instructional Rounds Wednesday, please put a sign on your door so teachers do not come in.
What to focus on?
Visits should focus on individual or team goals for growth in instructional practices.
Ideas for elements to focus on-
-Student Engagement -Teacher/Student Movement -Response Rates
-Classroom Management -Teacher Talk-vs-Student Talk -Questioning
-Breaks -Technology Use -Seating
“When teachers have an opportunity to observe and interact with their colleagues in a non-evaluative way regarding instruction, everyone wins.”-Robert Marzano
