Year 6 and 7

In year 7 pupils will develop the skills learned in KS1 and KS2 to become more confident with performing different sports and physical activities.

The pupils will explore with, and practice, a variety of sports such as: Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Athletics and Rounders.

They will explore health and fitness through a range of obstacle courses, gym workouts and fitness tests. The pupils should develop their interest of becoming involved in exercise and sporting activities. They will practise supporting fellow pupils by sharing what they know and understand. They will also work towards applying the long-term health benefits of physical activity.

Year 8

In year 8, pupils will develop a wide range of skills, tactics and strategies through different invasion games such as Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Hockey, and Rounders. These sports will be aiming mostly at the understanding of creating space, passing and receiving, attacking/defending a goal, avoiding opponents, maintaining possession and communication.

The pupils will be encouraged to analyse the different situations of the games and make decisions in order to become more confident in problem solving. They will reflect on their own performance and the performance of their peers, finding way to improve.

The pupils will develop their interests by becoming involved in exercise and sporting activities. They will also be able to support, and show, peers what they know and understand. The will apply the long-term health benefits of physical activity to their day-to-day life.

Sport leadership opportunities are offered in year 8 and continue through to year 11. Opportunities include explaining rules to another pupil or group and, choosing students to take on particular roles within a game.

Year 9

In year 9, pupils will refine their health and fitness through a variety of gym workouts and fitness tests.

The pupils should boost their understanding and ability to use tactics and strategies through different invasion games such as: Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Hockey and Rounders. These sports reinforce the pupils understanding of creating space, passing and receiving, attacking and defending a goal, avoiding opponents, maintaining possession and communication.

Sports leader opportunities available include encouragement to assign roles to a group fairly, to question the group and listen to feedback. Also, explain the rules of a simple game, being able to lead a warm up, assess a room to make sure it is safe for sports and identify positive and negative behaviour.

Year 10, 11

In year 10 and 11 the pupils will develop how to effectively communicate to a group, be able to officiate and apply rules correctly, model correct behaviour and demonstrate correct technique to a group.

The pupils should become secure using tactics and strategies through different invasion games such as: Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Hockey and Rounders. These sports targets a secure understanding of creating space, passing and receiving, attacking and defending a goal, avoiding opponents, maintaining possession and communication.

The pupils will be encouraged to work on specific areas to try to improve their performance, identify ways to improve their fitness, explain and apply basic safety principles when preparing for exercise.

PE studies offer the possibility to gain qualifications at Entry level 1, 2, 3 and pupils are encouraged to aspire to achieving Level.
