School Counseling Program
Meet the School Counselor
Hello EBCA Family,
My name is Ms. Sanchez and I am excited to be EBCA's School Counselor. I am thrilled to be a part of our school community and build EBCA's very first school counseling program. I attended Fresno State, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Minor in Communication in May 2020. I then obtained a Master's Degree in School Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services credential in May 2022. I was born in Fresno, CA, and am devoted to supporting the students and families in our community. In my free time, I enjoy learning new languages and spending time with my 5 furbabies. I hope to build meaningful relationships with every one of our students and collaborate with parents and teachers to ensure the success of all EBCA students. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Introduction to Elementary School Counseling
American School Counselor Association
(ASCA) National Model
The Role of the School Counselor
The school counselor supports students throughout the school day. As student advocates, school counselors collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to develop a comprehensive counseling program that will assist in addressing students' social/emotional, academic, and college/career development while abiding by the ASCA national model.
The ASCA National Model guides school counselors in the development of school counseling programs that:
are based on data-informed decision making
are delivered to all students systematically
include a developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on the mindsets and behaviors all students need for postsecondary readiness and success
close achievement and opportunity gaps
result in improved student achievement, attendance, and discipline
Services Offered
Students request to meet with me by asking their parent/guardian or teacher to refer them. Parents and teachers can submit a referral through an online form. Usually, students come to me directly during recess to request they be seen as soon as possible. I meet with students during recess, lunch, or specials depending on the urgency of the student's needs.

*Please note school counselors do not provide "therapy" or "traditional counseling". Counseling taking place at school will be brief and solution-focused. Groups will be educational in nature and parental consent will be required. Referrals for long-term counseling services are available if children need additional support.
Consent & Confidentiality
CONSENT:
At EBCA, all students have access to a school counselor. A teacher may consult with me regarding a student's adverse behavior or emotional concerns during the day. Likewise, a student can request to see me for any reason. Common reasons students request to see me include: academic concerns, student or teacher conflicts, and emotional regulation. Students also request to see me for happy reasons, too! Celebrations, sharing accomplishments, and expressing joy are also common reasons students may request to speak with me.
If I need to meet with your child multiple times, I will solicit your permission separately. I will not meet with your child regularly for the same reason without your consent. Referrals to extensive mental health services can be made depending on the student's need.
CONFIDENTIALITY:
As needed, I will meet with your child to support issues that may be affecting your child’s social-emotional skills and/or success in the classroom. School counseling is short-term and problem-solving oriented. Confidentiality is important to develop a positive counseling relationship. Information shared by your child will be kept confidential UNLESS:
Someone is hurting the student
The student wants to hurt someone else
The student wants to hurt themselves
The student gives me permission to share with another trusted adult
