Hello Class, Goodbye!
(Class 804)
It feels like a lifetime ago when I first stood before that energetic class of 8th graders in YLJH. Just once a week, I'd journey in, armed with a hopeful heart. One small student, I recall vividly, attempted a question, their English a delightful tumble of sounds. "Interesting!" I'd cheerfully reply, prompting a blush as bright as a dragon fruit.
Now, a year has spun by. Those same bright faces, now 9th graders, beam at me, a little taller, a touch more confident in their English. Today, they've asked for a photo. This isn't just a picture; it's a testament to shared laughter, small victories, and the unique charm of teaching English in Taiwan. "Cheese!" I'll say, capturing this precious slice of Taiwanese cuteness!
👈They will graduate soon! 🥰
Emma was a bright spark in my Winter Camp classroom. Her smile, as radiant as a Changhua sunset, often greeted me. What struck me most wasn't just her quick intellect, but her genuine enthusiasm for English. While others hesitated, Emma's hand would shoot up, eager to practice, her voice was very clear.
Beyond her own learning, Emma has a rare kindness. If a classmate stumbled over a phrase, Emma would gently offer a helping hand, her explanation patient and encouraging. For me, a foreign teacher navigating a new culture, Emma was a quiet anchor. She'd subtly clarify cultural nuances I missed, or offer a shy explanation when my Mandarin faltered.
One day, after class, she presented me with a small pouch. Inside were fragrant bread, a local specialty. "For you, Teacher," she said softly, her eyes sparkling with sincerity. Emma, my pretty, smart, and wonderfully helpful student, warmth and kindness. She made teaching not just a job, but a joy.
